My 11 year old son LOVES this (and so do his friends & the neighborhood kids!)
My 11 year old son has had so many RC cars over the years, and this one is easily his favorite! He was blown away by how BIG it is. It looks really impressive and if you’re looking for that wow factor when your kiddo first unwraps the gift, this one delivers! The style of the truck is very cool too — this is easily the most impressive looking RC car my son has ever had. The car runs on a battery that can be removed from the base of the vehicle and plugged in to a special charger cord to charge it. Love that you don’t have to plug the vehicle itself into the wall to charge it up. And it comes with two car batteries which is really helpful, however you do only get one cord to charge so you can only charge 1 battery at a time. But this works fine — after the first battery is charged and ready, you can plug in the second battery to charge while using the first one. For the first time charging the car battery it did take about 2 hours for it to get fully charged, and the battery lasts only about 20-25 minutes of continuous use. So when you first use this, even if you plug in the second battery as soon as you unplug the first one, the second battery won’t be fully charged when the first battery has drained and you’ll have to wait about 1.5 hours for the second battery to get charged up. However, my hope is that once a battery has been initially charged and depleted that subsequent charging will not take as long, as most toy vehicles we’ve had before have been that way. Note though that if you have a kiddo who’s going to want to play with this right away and/or play for longer than 25 minutes when they first use it, you may want to consider pre-charging both batteries before you gift them the toy! The packaging that it arrives is alright. It’s a humongous packaging box and we expected that that the toy would be a lot smaller but we were so surprised when we opened the box - the car takes up ALL the room in there to the point that it’s a little difficult to get it out! Now as for the box itself, I would note that this clearly is something that was written in a different language and translated to English. The grammar isn’t perfect and there are a few minor spelling errors. Also, the vehicle is 1:8 size but the box had a misprint saying it was 1:12 size so the seller taped a “1 — 8” sticker over the 1:12 part that looks kinda random. But other than these little things the box otherwise has a professional look, and it showcases the key features of this toy. Another BIG note: there is no instruction sheet included with this toy!!! Instead the instructions, including how to remove and charge the car batterie, which buttons do what on the controller and more, are available on the outside of the box and nowhere else. So please make sure you do not get rid of the box until you no longer need the instructions! I would suggest using your phone to take a photo of the instructions on the box right away so there’s no chance the box will get ruined or lost before you and/or your kiddo could memorize how the various parts work. Now for the car’s functionality. It functions on par with the nicer RC trucks we get from our local Big Box Store that are a bit smaller than this and usually sell for around $60 there. It’s definitely way better than the budget ($20-$35) RC cars sold here and at various stores but I can’t say it functions much better than the cars that go for that $60ish price. The remote’s look and function are almost identical to the $60 Big Box Mart car’s remote. There’s only 2 real difference between this and the slightly cheaper version we normally get at the store: the first is its size. This thing, again, is massive! It will absolutely WOW your kiddo. Its larger size also does help it drive over rocks and such a little better than the somewhat smaller $60 RC cars we would get, but the difference isn’t huge there. The second real difference between this and the RC cars that go for about $60 at the big box stores is that this one has LIGHTS! Specifically it’s got several lights at the top of the truck that are nice and bright and make this really fun to race around the backyard just after dark. And while the added size and the lights make this a definite step up from the $60 box big store car, some may feel like it isn’t worth paying extra on this one since the function is pretty much the same. So that’s something you’ll have to decide based on your budget, the recipient and what they would want the most from their car, the occasion, etc. But we absolutely love it and are actually considering paying full price for another one so he and his friends can race each other and each have one of these cars. (This one is the most popular RC car in the neighborhood and all the kids always want to be the one using it!) In the end, my son and I (and his buddies, and all the neighbor kids…) are really thrilled with this RC car. What really makes it stand out is its size, it’s truly massive, much bigger than any other RC car we’ve had before! But for teens, adults or kids who are racing prod and looking for something that can tear through crazy environments at super fast speeds, this probably isn’t what you’re looking for. But for kids in the 5-10+ age group who will love a big RC car that looks amazing, lights up and works well across grass, some rocks, and of course on smoother ground like pavement… they will LOVE this! For us this is a 5 star product, although I can see where the $89 price tag may seem a little too high. We really want another one as I said but I’m going to watch and see if the price comes down at all. I feel like $70 would be the ideal price for this product. You get a lot here, but almost $90 does seem a bit too high. I hope this helps! Read more
