12.5” Multimedia BLUETOOTH 5.3 version, portable DVD video player

Larry WiningerJune 22, 2024✓ Verified purchase

Jekero / HotHat 12.5” Multimedia BLUETOOTH 5.3 version, portable DVD video player – Sold by Amazon for around $89.99, with a possible discount coupon too. I give this DVD unit a 5 of 5 stars, hands down! Of the 25+ Amazon DVD units that have a 12.5” case (10.1” screen), that I have reviewed, this is the ONLY DVD player that I found checks all of my boxes. I would buy this unit again if I needed to. Let me share the great features of this unit with you as follows: 1) The top of my list is that it is the ONLY unit of the 25+ that I have extensively reviewed, that has the 5.3 version of Bluetooth!!! I have 3 of my BT devices connected to this unit. They all work perfectly. Did you hear me? Only this unit of the 25+ units has Bluetooth!!! Or you can continue to use your WIRED headsets. Your choice. 2) After a full charge to the unit’s battery, I was able to get a full 4 hours 10 minutes from the power source. I read that if I only listened to MP3’s and not watched movies (turn the screen off), I would probably get a bit closer to the 5 hour suggested battery time. 3) As indicated on the outside of the box, the battery of the unit also acts as a Power Bank. I’m not sure what the mAh rating is on this unit. Can’t find that info anywhere. However, that said, the unit’s battery will top off my Samsung S22 ultra phone, my Samsung 10” notepad and my BT earbuds, plus other similar devices. 4) Also, one more nice feature on the menu screen that I don’t recall seeing displayed on hardly any of the other 25+ units that I looked at. In the upper right corner of the “menu” screen, a battery icon is displayed, showing the “full” to “low” status of the unit’s battery. It’s display changes the black battery icon to white as the strength reduces. Looks like that changes probably 4-5 times, going from full to dead status. Again, as a reminder, after fully charging the battery to 100%, I was able to get a non-stop 4 hours and 10 minutes from the battery. I just put a DVD movie in and let it loop until it ran out of juice. Again, 4 hours and 10 minutes duration. Some of the other 4 units that I bought and returned only lasted 2 hours and 5 minutes at best. Poor advertising when supplier lists battery strength as 5 – 6 hours. 5) Volume has a display of 0-20 on screen. Most of the time I had volume set between 16-20. That varied depending on the music I was listening to or the DVD movie that I was watching. Side note: Where this bad boy has the 5.3 version of Bluetooth, most of the time I have my BT headphones on. They give great separation and tons more volume and bass than the little speakers in the unit. 6) Another nice feature is where the speakers and the operating buttons are located on the unit. Case in point: Some of the DVD’s that I either purchased or just reviewed had the unit’s speakers on the “base” portion of the unit rather than on the “top or screen” portion of the unit. Problem with that location on the speakers is that when you twist the screen around or lay it down flat, that design either partially or fully blocks the sound coming from the “base” designed speakers. Poor Design of speaker location!!! Another similar situation with the control buttons. Think about this: Some if not most of the units that I looked at have the “play, pause, FF, volume up/down and other similar controls on the “base” area of the unit and also on the remote control. Again, when you twist the screen 180’ or lay it flat, you either have to turn the screen back around or tilt it back up or use the remote to use any of the control buttons. This unit that I am critiquing, Jekero, has located the speakers into the “top or screen” area of the unit. When you twist or lay screen down, there is no blocking of the sound. None. Also, in addition to the speakers being located in the “top or screen” area, the control buttons are also right there in the middle of the screen area, between the speakers. That seems like such a no-brainer to me. Why would someone design a unit that causes you to jump through so many hoops to enjoy your movie? 7) As far as the quality of the screen, I rate it an 8 of 10 in quality. It’s very sharp and bright, in fact so sharp that there is NO “sharpness” adjustment at all. Most all of the units that I either bought and returned, or reviewed, had five (5) adjusting features. This unit, under the “Custom display effect” section of the menu only has four (4) setting adjustments: brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation. No “sharpness” like nearly all of the others that I looked at. Again, the picture is very sharp! That’s why there is NO sharpness adjustment feature included or needed. The “out of the box” items included are the 120 v power charger, the auto 12 v adaptor, the tri-plug a/v connecting cable, remote control, a behind the front seat DVD unit holder and an owner’s manual. They did not throw in a couple of aaa batteries for the remote, so you’ll need to pony up for those. One other thing that I noticed on this selection is that the Jekero unit was offered to Amazon for sale back in May 2024. That was just a month ago. Some of the other units that I reviewed had manufacture dates back in 2023 or previous than that date. Seemed like some of the sellers were trying to clear their shelves of old DVD units. Not sure about that though. I just prefer to have a fresh new unit that has the BT modern technology for me to enjoy. Amazon currently sells this unit for $89.99. I was able to take advantage of an additional $xx.xx coupon as well. In conclusion, I would buy another one of these units if I needed to. I 100% recommend this unit to those looking for a great, feature-and-quality- packed unit. The best bang for my buck on this unit is the built in 5.3 version of Bluetooth. That was a must have for me!!! Hope my information helps you in making a smart choice with this one. Don’t waste anymore of your time. Get this guy. You will not regret your choice. P.S. I was NOT compensated or paid by the seller to give you the low down on this item. Enjoy - Read more

Works well for viewing old home videos

Kindle CustomerJuly 9, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I am glad I bought this little DVD player. I got it to view old home video DVDs and CDROMs (VCDs) and it works fine for that. For viewing CDROM photos, it loads and briefly displays a photo, then blanks the screen while loading the next photo, so it is less useful for viewing photos (JPG files) saved to .CDROM. Also note that, while the start screen displays the manufacturer's name, the included instructions end with “Contact Us” but have zero contact info on that sheet. So save the box. Read more

Works as promised

Screen is a bit small for my old eyes, but it's a pretty good unit for what I need it for! Picture quality is pretty good, though you have to be directly in front of it to see. Very easy to use. Playback is great, and it will hold the last known location on the disk for you in case you have to pause or stop a movie. It actually does have Bluetooth, though it took me some time to figure it out. I actually had to come back here and look at the product description because I didn't receive any manual or directions with the unit. But I've figured it out and have blown through all 8 Harry Potter videos, all 4 Hunger Games, several Star Trek movies....yep, the thing works great! Worth purchase. Read more

Great picture quality for the price.

Pam SJanuary 10, 2025✓ Verified purchase

I purchased this for myself. It was great price and also had $20 off so decided to try it. I bought this model especially for bluetooth capability. There are not many portable players that have bluetooth. I use bluetooth earbuds nearly 100% of the time because I have a day sleeper in my household who works overnight. Also important to me was that I wanted something that could sit in my lap or on a small table near me. Before, buying this, I had to watch DVDs on the tv across the room wearing my glasses. I wanted something I could sit near me so I would not have to wear my glasses. I can’t relax while wearing them. The picture quality & color on this little player is great as you can see in the photos I shared. The screen size is great. It does play all my old 20+ years old burned CDs, many songs are not played on radio anymore. I had thought about buying a CD player but now I don’t need to. There is a display button (LCD on/off) where you can turn screen off but still hear what is being played. This feature great when playing music. I love being able to still use it while charging. (I previously had one where you could not). Upon set up I did not know the Disc Region for my area so just left it at the 0 default. I don’t know the reason for having this option. The cons of this player are not deal breakers for me. I still works for my purposes & love it. Cons: while wearing my earbuds, I lose connection when I walk away about 20’, but reconnect again automatically when I get closer. Also, when the player is turned off & restarted, the bluetooth does not stay connected. I have to put my earbuds back into their storage case, push the bluetooth button, then take the earbuds back out of their case to reconnect. It takes a few seconds. It did take me a little bit to find out how to connect the bluetooth. It is not in the menu settings. It is the DVD/BT button on the player. When the BT is on, the BT symbol displays on the screen. There is not a very low volume when watching without headphones. The player does get pretty warm charging while playing. It makes noise while the disc is starting up and now after I used it for awhile it continually makes this noise. With my earphones in I do not hear it much, but without them, the noise may be distracting/disturbing. Read more
