The end of the handle to the tip of the claw is 18 in. 8 in long in total when compacted. 22 in long when fully telescoped. Patella scoffing handle appears to be stainless steel but the claw itself seems to be some type of tinned metal. The tips of the claw around it so they're not sharp or cutting but are able to be very aggressive with enough force. The claw seems to be soldered onto the end of the telescopic handle and feels secure. Orienting the claw evenly to the surface of the back is somewhat challenging due to its unusual shape but isn't that difficult. This is definitely not the most durable back scratcher and will bend with enough force, but for the value it's a pretty well made item. Read more

A personal back scratcher is a must! I have owned several of the old-style wooden scratchers for years, and for the most part, they have served me well. What I love about this metal scratcher is that it provides me with options that a wooden one cannot. For starters, it's telescopic so it can be expanded when in use and then be compact when needing to travel with it. I can throw this into a suitcase and it would have a far smaller footprint than a wooden scratcher would. This metal scratcher also provides a more satisfying scratch sensation without having to apply force. The steel bear claws do an excellent job of addressing back itch. Finally, I like the design of the scratcher right down to the plastic red handle which makes it comfortable to use, though I wish they would have used rubber to add more comfort. Consider that a small nitpick. No kidding, I am throwing my old wooden scratcher in the trash today. Read more
