Very effective. I placed it and the first day I did not get any rats. I changed the food to bird feed and the first time I got two rats at once. Cages are built with extremely thin and fragile aluminum. If you get big enough rat or even small squirrel they will absolutely destroy the trigger plate and catch-bar assembly and render the device inoperable. There is also a design flaw in the locking bar assembly that can prevent the cage from locking after it snaps shut and this allows mice and critters to push the trap door open and escape. I've had a lot of triggers and only a handful of critters actually got locked inside. For very very small mice like southwestern Deer mouse these traps are effective for several reuses but overall this cage is disposable and breaks down due to flimsy internal trigger construction. If your goal is a couple of mice and not a permanent reusable device then this trap will work. Otherwise go larger and better build with live traps from a hardware box store. Read more

The media could not be loaded. To say that I’m disappointed with this product would be an understatement of gargantuan proportions! I have declared war on squirrels in my garden and bought these because I intend to win by relocating them (be advised they can return from up to 20 miles away). I figured I’d trap two squirrels a day and be done in a few weeks. With that in mind, there is nothing more disappointing than a product that would have worked had they put just a little more quality into it. It is VERY, VERY flimsy—like it's made out of sugar. I did manage to trap two squirrels; however, the first one broke the trigger mechanism, and the trap got bent while I was releasing the second squirrel, rendering it useless. I've caught a bunch of rats in the yard with these, because I don't want to use poison and I'd rather release the rats alive out in the woods. They work great. They won't stand up to a bunch of abuse, but they do their job just fine. They are easy to set, and I haven't seen my bait robbed even once. I don't see how they could harm an animal that fits in there. They're all metal. My only suggestion would be a carry handle. I rigged one up out of some wire, but when you have a pissed off rat in there you don't really want to handle the box itself. Read more
