LOVE the top-lid design. Perfect for travelers staying in smaller rooms.

I've taken this bag on 4 multi-day business trips across the country and feel pretty good about reviewing it now. The bag itself has performed well. It qualifies as carry-on for Southwest, Alaska Airlines, and Delta and easily fits into the overhead bins on those planes. HOWEVER - it is too big for the overhead commuter bins at the front of the plan on all Southwest planes, and Alaska prop-planes. That said, the bag has been a worthy travel companion. The extension handle action is glossy-smooth and the wheels roll suitably enough through airports and sidewalks. As with all bags this size and quality, it struggles a bit on cobblestone and rough patches on sidewalks. The breaks on the wheels are cute but a pain to deal with - tried setting them a few times, but they're so small and the action is so finicky that I just gave up on them. Since most bags this size don't have breaks, it was easy to ignore and forget about. In terms of capacity - the bag is deceptively smaller than you'd expect. While I do appreciate the layout and the convenience of that top-opening list (seriously - it is awesome) I did find in practice that the suitcase holds less than some of the more popular hard-shelled offerings on Amazon. While is does have an expansion zipper, I found myself longing for the few extra cubic inches of spaces my last bag offered. That said, I was able to fit 4 days of clothes, a toiletry bag, and a pair of dress shoes in the suitcase very snugly. I did have to wear two seaters on the plane, though, to make up for the lost space. A note about the top compartment zipper. I really do love this feature. First, when TSA flagged my bag for checking, I noticed it was much less hassle for the TSA officer to open and find the item in my bag that tripped their scanners. Second, and this is a big one, it's SO much much easier to set the suitcase on the hotel bed and simply open the top compartment zipper, than it is to upzip an entire suitcase and unfold it open, which takes up twice as much space. I really to prefer this design and look forward to traveling with it going forward. I did use the coffee holder while waiting for my flight out of LAX. It's a nice convenience that I'd never really thought about but definitely appreciated once I had it. It worked fine for my large coffee cups, I imagine it'll work fine for smaller cups/mugs as well. On the whole I think the bag is a good value for the money. It is a little pricier and slightly smaller than other hardshells in this category, but I think the extra $15 is worth it to forever enjoy the convenience of the top-lid design in my travels going forward; a one-time cost that will return comfort and convenience forever. I do replace the wheels on all my suitcases with higher-quality and quieter sets, and this will be no exception. But in terms of good durable suitcases that can hold a few days' worth of necessities, this suitcase is a fine choice. The compact top-lid design is especially well suited for travelers that may stay in hostels or other smaller rooms. Read more

A surprisingly practical carry-on with a smart top-opening design

A'N'DJanuary 16, 2026

My wife and I both had to replace our carry-ons. While she went for a traditional fabric one with pockets on the outside and everything, I was debating whether to try one of the hardshell styles. I don’t really like the idea of the 50-50 split down the middle where you need half the floor just to open it. You know the struggle when you’re in some tiny hotel room or squeezed in an airplane aisle trying to dig something out. But then I saw this one, and what sold me was the way it opens from the top instead of splitting down the middle like most suitcases. Now, in all honesty, I actually thought the top opening was just for easy access to items, while the suitcase also opened along the middle for packing. But that’s not the case! This suitcase only has that one opening at the top. So packing might not be as easy, which could be a dealbreaker for some, but not for me. I can pop it open while it’s standing upright, grab what I need, and zip it back up without laying the whole thing flat. That alone has been worth it for me. Build-wise, it feels solid enough for my use. I’m not a frequent traveler - I fly maybe three or four times a year. The shell is firm and hasn’t gotten banged up too badly yet, though I’ve only taken it on one trip so far. The wheels glide pretty smoothly, and the handle doesn’t wobble much. One thing that caught me off guard was how lightweight it is. I know that’s technically a good thing, but when you’re used to heavier luggage, it almost feels too light at first, like it might not hold up. So far, it’s been fine, but I’ll be curious to see how it does after a few more trips. The inside has a compression strap and a zippered compartment, which is pretty standard. I can fit about four days worth of clothes comfortably. The combination lock on the zipper is a nice bonus - it's not the fanciest lock, but adds a bit of peace of mind when you have to step away from the bag for a minute. The zipper that runs along the middle is for expansion if you need more room, though I haven’t had to use it much. The cup holder on the side was something I honestly thought would be gimmicky, but it’s actually been surprisingly handy. When you’re stuck waiting at the gate with a coffee or water bottle and your hands are full with your phone and boarding pass, having a spot to stick your drink is genuinely useful. It folds flat when not in use, so it doesn’t get in the way. Overall, it’s been great for what I needed. It’s not some high-end brand that’ll last forever, but for someone who travels a few times a year and doesn’t want to spend a ton, it works well. The top-opening design really does make a difference, and those little extras like the cup holder turned out to be way more useful than I expected. So far so good. Read more
