I originally bought these with wood working in mind. But their first use was for headlight restoration and they work perfectly. (I used them with some water, starting at 1200 working my way to 3000. The final touch was with PlastX and a DA buffer. Success!) The sponge and hook/loop backing are sturdy and allow the necessary conformance to non-flat surfaces. The size is a tad small for hand work, but adequate. I love it that even after two headlights, I can reuse them again for more! Edit: I have one tiny mini gripe, I wish the grit number stamped on the pads, was printed with permanent ink. I never used these before. I'm scrubbing the old, ratty clearcoat off my motorcycle, and these things are comfortable, and work well on uneven surfaces. Read more

This was perfect for contoured areas as it's foldable and great for sanding curves and you can cut it for smaller areas...you can use it wet or dry, and you get a great assortment of coarse to fine and extra fine grits.
