This is a nice set of well tuned chimes with a lovely wooden support bar and a rugged tripod base. It seems to be designed only for running a stick up or down the tubes, not for picking out individual notes. It’s possible to play a tune on it, but not easy. These are the type of chimes you see percussionists take a swipe at once in a while, as they are drumming. My only complaint is that such instruments are set up with the low notes at the left, like a piano. The photos of this unit support that. But the bracket on my set is installed on the wrong side; the low notes are in the right. I will have to disassemble the bracket and remount it on the other side, which will leave visible screw holes in the front of the wood. I believe I can find a washer large enough to cover the holes to make it look right. Read more

I don't know that much about music, but I have a huge collection of musical instruments that I like to dabble at when I am moody or in the dumps. Music, even untamed music, helps me relax. So when I seen this set of striker chimes, and at such a low price, I had to give them a try. They come in a large, long box, well packaged, that's awesome for keeping the chime bars all nice and straight. The stand actually comes with this set, which when I was looking for one weeks ago before finding this one, they usually didn't include the stand. It's well made, and there are 2 mallets for swiping or plucking the chimes. Each produces different melodious sounds. It is kind of hard to pluck at single chimes because they are positioned soooo close to each other that it makes it a little difficult to do, but all in all, it still makes me happy to hear. I do find that if I aim at the bottom of each chime, they are easier to pick out one at a time. They even include a few extra strings in case one breaks now and then, though I don't see how it could happen unless you're playing heavy metal...? lol The tones and notes are clear and precise. It was fairly easy for me to put together. I was missing an instruction pamphlet so had to look it up on YouTube, the basics of putting one together. Video and a little bit of physics, and voila! I had it together in about 35-40 minutes. It is a beautiful little instrument and fun to strum across. This is a great addition to my zen room. Read more
