You have to put the table together. It comes in several pieces, but the pieces are numbered, the instructions where fairly clear & they provide the tools. I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my daughter (59). Instructions indicate it might be easier to put together if 2 people do it but she did it by herself. She did it in several sittings over a 3 day period so she couldn't really say exactly how much time but she thinks under 4 hours. It would be faster with 2 people. She says the table itself seems sturdy, but the wood at the bottom of the drawers seems thinner so you wouldn't want to overload it. She does say follow the directions. A couple of times she thought she knew how the pieces should go together & she had to undo them. Also you can set it up to lift either side. She set it to lift on the same side as the drawers since she uses it as a work at home desk. It has 2 drawers & an opening between them plus a couple of openings under the lift part for storage. I really love this coffee table, great addition to my living room, match my floor color perfectly. What I enjoyed the most is the top lift feature. The dual lift-tops is awesome height for working or eating, I use my laptop while sitting at my couch. Also, we are able to eat while watching TV, this is so convenience. After folded, it is great for keeping drinks and snacks close by. Both lift mechanisms are sturdy and smooth, definitely good quality materials. This was exactly what I was looking for. It offers more storage than I expected, so that was a nice surprise. I chose this option primarily for the storage and the ability to decide which side lifts and slides out toward me. That feature allows me to place it against the wall while still accessing the storage and using it as a desk. I will say it is not quite as tall as I would have preferred, but I am still able to place a standard chair in front of it and use it as a desk as intended. I am currently looking for lifts to add a bit more height and may purchase them, not sure yet. I also appreciate that when I am not using it as a desk, it blends in well with the other furniture in my living room and does not look like a desk at all. I personally chose not to use it as a table, which is why I am able to `keep it against the wall, but it is nice to know that option is available if I decide to change how I use it in the future. The only improvements I would suggest are the height and possibly a slightly better wood quality. However, considering the price, I believe it offers good value. The reviews were also accurate regarding the assembly process. It did take quite a bit of time, about four to five hours, but I expected that going in. I was able to put it together on my own by laying out all the pieces around my living room in order and working through the steps. It was time consuming but manageable. Only time will tell how well the hydraulic lift system holds up, but so far it has worked well. I assembled it about three weeks ago and have used the lift almost every day without any issues.
