The minicam seems to work great. EXCEPT.... when I record something and insert the USB drive SSD card into my Chromebook, it does not recognize the file format. I have tried reformatting the SSD card using the standard formats: FAT32, XFAT, NTFS and ... nothing! It's not the SSD because it does record, I just don't know why this is happening. I sent a message to the e-mail given in the manual, but the company has not replied yet. Read more

This VIDCASTIVE 4K Wi-Fi body camera is an OK mini body camera. It offers a good number of options and the Wi-Fi is useful to get a bigger view, but it's really only 1080p and the Wi-Fi connection is flaky. The most important issue is that it's not 4K; the optical sensor in the camera is only 1080p, as best as I can tell. I pointed the camera at a resolution test pattern at 4K, 2K, and 1080p. I then scaled these all to 4K. They look virtually identical, specifically the center of the resolution test image where you can gauge the camera's resolution. Other than this glaring deficiency, the camera's features are somewhat decent, when it's working correctly. The adjustable camera is a nice feature. It can be pointed forward for clip mounting on the body. It can point back for selfie-style shooting. Or it can point forward, like a flashlight. I like this best when combined with the app, so you can point it around with one hand and view big-screen on a phone with the other at night. FOV definitely isn't 150 degrees. Maybe 100 degrees. Audio is somewhat muffled. The mic probably isn't next to a hole in the case. Night vision is decent though it's an odd circular shape since the IR cut filter doesn't have a big enough gap for the full frame. Auto mode enables it when it gets dark, but if you're near an object it will keep switching back and forth between night and day vision. One issue is in Wi-Fi mode you can't manually enable night vision; it must be set to auto or it won't come on when connected to the app, but auto night vision has the switching issue. Motion detection worked well. It triggered on moderate motion (my hand moving in frame) and kept running for 15 seconds or so after the motion. This feature doesn't save much battery but it cuts down on recordings to sift through if you're only interested when things happen. It's got a pretty solid physical build. The back clip slides on but doesn't secure all that well. The screen is small and the small number of buttons means each has many functions depending on what screen it shown. The menus offer a lot of options: H.264/H.265, motion detection, language, IR night vision auto/manual, loop recording clip duration, exposure override (really works), beep volume (including silent), LCD screen blanking after non-use, auto power off if not recording, settable text overlays for person/device info, date/time. The app is pretty decent. The video is silky-smooth 60 FPS. This is useful with night vision mode to point the camera around to see in the dark without making a bright light for someone else to notice. It's also useful for just checking how the view looks. It allows access to stored clips on the camera and that works pretty well for scanning through them quickly. The app has most of the settings as the camera menu, but leaves out a few like H.264/H.265 selection, auto night vision, etc. It's several steps to connect to the camera (go into Wi-Fi, connect to its signal, go back and open app, connect). It sometimes disconnects, and when that happens you have to exit the app, turn off the camera's Wi-Fi mode, turn it back on, then go through the connection steps again. A few times the camera was non-responsive. One time it was powered on but no buttons worked. Read more
