this is a great quality leather strop. It seems to be well put together, very solid lightweight wood, and seems to be high-quality leather on both sides. Great handle, very easy to hold onto, and two different textures of leather, to give you two different grit strength. Can be used with aluminum oxide sticks, or diamond paste, it is really up to you. This strop is great for maintaining your carving tools. The wood used is nice and smooth with a finish on it. Also the leather is decent quality and thickness. It holds compound well. I also like that it is two sided with the 2 types of texture for the leather. Read more
Nice strop. The wood is heavy, feels very solid, you can smell the real leather attached to both sides. Seemed to do a good job removing burr from my knives. Definitely need to hone my technique though. $40 seems a bit steep, but I've never priced strops before. Might be a better buy around $30. Read more
This leather strop is an excellent tool for keeping blades razor sharp. The leather is thick and well-constructed, and the included polishing compound is better than expected. My first leather strop. I have a bunch of stones i've gotten experienced at using. This way of sharpening knives gets you some seriously sharp knives that make some kitchen tasks possible without issues. This kit gives a wax block which i rubbed over both sides of the strop then let it sit for 24 hours. The next day i sharpened my first knife, 10 passes for each side of strop, and both sides of my knife. Now you can see where you can cut paper smoothly without effort. Newb impressed. Read more
Really useful if you don't want to use just a leather strap. The only bad part would be this isn't to be used forever, it would be cool to have one where you can change out the leather parts once you've used them up. The price is fair as it is sturdy and does what it's suppose to. Read more
I recently acquired a new medium-level set of knifes that are incredibly sharp. Their sharpness alerted me that my older, higher-end, German, workhorse knife set had dulled over time, so it was time to break out my wet stones to bring them back to their youthful cutting prowess. But alas, I needed a strop to hone them to perfection. So I chose this nice double-sided leather honing strop from TKSDWBLTY. As a bonus, it also comes with a small bar of green polishing compound. No directions were included, but there are plenty of stropping tutorial videos online. The size of the strop, including handle, is about 14.56"L x 1.94"W x 0.81"H. The length of the leather portions are about 9.38"L, which is a good size for most kitchen and pocket-sized knives. The handle is rounded and fits the hand well, although I prefer to lay it flat while in use. One side features rough leather whereas the other is smooth. The two-sided nature allows use of two different polishing compounds as desired. The rough side is best suited to remove burrs created by the sharpening process, while the smooth side is optimal for creating a buffed shine. Since no instructions came with the set, it's hard to know for sure the grit of the green compound, but generally green rouge compound is on the finer side, containing chromium oxide particles less than 1 micron, equivalent to 10,000 to 30,000 grit. The chromium oxide is what gives polishing compound it's color. It is used to finish stainless steel to a high luster mirror-like finish. The only caveat of this strop is the black color of the leather. I'd prefer it to be it's native brown/beige color so to more easily distinguish the grit size last used. I only bring this up because I'd prefer to eventually step up to diamond polishing stones and compound to facilitate quicker sharpening and honing with less mess. As is though, this strop definitely suits my current needs as an entry-level honing tool. Read more
