I ordered these Legal Pads 8.5 X11, Narrow Ruled Notepads, 6 Pack, 50 Sheet/Pad to use in my office. I write fairy tale fantasy series under different pen names; I like writing at least part of my first drafts by hand, because I find it catches the speed of how my mind works better than typing on a screen. This six lack of legal pads is just what I need for starting a new project. The pads I received measured about 8 1/2” x 11” and have a cardboard backing that offers some support for writing. It’s not the thickest cardboard, but it gets the job done. The paper is white with blue lines; there’s a double vertical red stripe at the left side, and it’s college ruled. The top of each page is perforated, so you can easily tear off a page whenever needed. The paper is slightly thicker than printer paper. I tested this with a range of pens, everything from fountain pens to razor felt tips to gel pens to dual tipped markers, and I found the pages smooth and easily to write on. I’m left handed, and didn’t have any issues with ink smearing or smudging. I like writing on a legal pad because there’s no spiral or rings for my hand to bump against when writing. I tested black, blue, and several colored inks, and had no issues with ghosting through the page. A wide tipped Sharpie does leave a faint image through the page, but i don’t generally write manuscripts with a wide tipped Sharpie. Otherwise, the range of pens I tested worked fin; no smudging, no ghosting, and the paper is smooth and easy to write on. Each pad had fifty pages; I received six pads, for a total of three hundred pages. At the current price ($11.09 for six pads) this is a nice deal; I’ve seen a three pack of legal pads sell in the $10 range, so getting six pads for just over $11 is a good bargain. These pads were just what I was looking for—standard sized, college ruled, and I like the white paper as a change from the ubiquitous yellow pads. Great for the office; great for making lists, doing homework, and yes, writing novels, too. Read more

I really like these legal pads primarily because they are white instead of the typical yellow which are much more common. I have numerous sucks of new and consumed yellow legal pads but it's harder to find standard white with printed lines that are spaced closely together like these are. Even my yellow legal pads which I buy a multi packs at Costco have much larger spacing between the lines. I prefer tighter spacing like these pads have because of the way that I write and jot down ideas. I always like to have a full size legal pad handy in the rooms where I spend most time so when I get an idea I can quickly jot it down before I forget. After I finish all the sheets, I keep those legal pads for years, after they're filled up and I look back on all the different ideas that I've had that then manifested and turned into actual real world results so it's a great way of keeping an ongoing sort of diary of my creative process and also fun to look back on years later to see all the things that I've accomplished and manifested. I use my calendar for digital recording of appointments and things like that but I find it much more effective and stimulates close state to use handwriting to jot down ideas on pieces of paper and instead of having a bunch of loose random Bits of Paper laying around or Post-it notes that never have enough space on them, having full size legal pads with all the paper connected together in one pad is the best way that works for me. Also it's very easy to tear off the sheets from these pads because of the clean perforations. Anyway not much more to say about legal pads in general but I'm happy to have this set and at the current $12 price point for six pads, that comes out to $2 per pad which I think is a great value. If you’re looking to stock the home office without breaking the bank, these legal pads are a respectable choice. The paper quality is on point and the tear-off is as smooth as a clean sample on a fresh track - no jagged edges or accidental rips when you're trying to move a page. They feel sturdy enough to survive a marathon brainstorming session or a quick inventory check on the workbench. There is a bit of a catch on the dimensions, though. While the pads themselves look like the standard legal size when they’re sitting in the stack, the detached sheets aren't quite there. Once you pull a page, you lose the width of the binding strip, leaving you with a sheet that’s shorter than the official spec. It’s not a mission-killer if you’re just jotting down notes or sketching out a new project, but if you need every inch of that legal-sized real estate, keep your head on a swivel. Even with the "short" sheets, the value is decent enough to keep them in the rotation. High-Efficiency Tear Performance: Features a clean, reliable perforation that ensures pages detach smoothly without compromising the rest of the pad. Dependable Paper Grade: Offers a solid surface for pens and pencils alike, holding the ink well without a lot of ghosting or bleed-through. Standard-Appearance Footprint: Fits perfectly into most clipboards and portfolios, maintaining a professional look while on the desk. Sturdy Backing Integrity: Built with a firm cardboard base that provides enough support to take notes on the fly without needing a table. Budget-Friendly Inventory Upgrade: Provides a bulk supply of reliable writing surfaces at a price point that respects the monthly operating fund. Read more
