8/23/2025 I've always been a fan of solar energy and love how the technology has been improving. A good case in point is this little solar light. Its much more than the run of the mill types. The design is brilliant. This light has a built-in 18650 rechargeable battery already installed AND in the base is another compartment that allows you to install 2 AA regular batteries. Flip the switch under the base to ON1 and you're drawing from the solar recharged 18650 battery or flip it to ON2 and you draw from the AA batteries. Great backup! If you flip it to the middle OFF position you neither use or charge any of the batteries. A nice feature after its been charged as the lithium battery will hold its charge for a long time. Remember, to recharge the built-in battery you must move the switch to the ON1 position in sunlight or the solar panel won't have a path to the battery. The alkaline AAs will also stay charged because, well, they're alkaline. Well known to hold their charge for a long time. You should never be in the dark. The light is also very attractive and features a separate 2nd base for ground mounting and a hanger to suspend it from something instead. Of course, it also functions as a table lamp perfect for our firepit or RV campsite. The light produced by the Edison bulb is warm and bright without being excessively bright and gives that retro look that's been the rage for a few years. The solar panel on top is bigger than most and should easily keep the 18650 charged. The solar light itself is a dusk to dawn type while the AA switch functions as an on/off type. I also noted that the light is much brighter when it's drawing from fresh AA power as opposed to solar but that's because the solar is designed to last the night At this price point of $10 I believe it to be a worthwhile purchase. The media could not be loaded. This solar light comes with a stake you can screw onto the bottom or you can use the handle and clip to hang the light. The bottom of the inside is mirrored which prohibits light from shining down. The light works better on the ground with scattered light. I’m really happy with this outdoor solar path light. You have the option to use it with solar energy on its own. It can also be used with two AA batteries. Batteries are not included, but it has the capability to insert them to have for a back up during inclement weather. Great for those days with fewer hours of sunlight. This is a solo path light pack. It comes with a garden stake and a heavy wire hanger. I chose to use it as a table lamp in my front courtyard. The light bulb has a vintage “Edison Bulb” look and I enjoy being able to see the filament when we are sitting outside. The casing is made from a thick durable plastic and has a hurricane seeded glass look. The entire top is the solar panel. Maximizing the amount of charging capability. It’s represented as only needing a four hour charge, giving a full eight hours of light. We have not had any issues with the light turning off early. It stays illuminated through the night. Priced pretty fare compared to the basic lighted solar lights you get at the home improvement stores. Which actually dont even have a lightbulb in them. Read more

Like all solar lights, this lantern is super-easy to use; you peel off the plastic film over the solar battery, set the switch to “on” and stick it somewhere in the sun so it can charge. How long the light lasts depends on how long you charge the lantern and how much of it is in direct vs. indirect sunlight. Although it’s very sunny where I live in SoCal, my yard actually gets a lot of shade, but I haven’t had any problems with this lantern not charging well. The lantern is very versatile. It can be used either with a stake in the ground, hung up using the included hook and clip (see attached photo), or simply set on the ground (which is what I currently do). Moreover, it can use either its own solar battery or if it’s a cloudy day, it can draw on AA batteries (not included), although you have to manually switch between them; it’s not automatic. The lantern is made of a type of plastic (albeit a particularly strong and durable kind) and has a basic design, so it doesn’t look high-end or particularly decorative, but I am still giving it five stars because I’m so impressed by how strong the light is and how long it lasts. It has a large, rather cute round bulb that gives off a bright white light. Just one of these lanterns provides a lot of illumination. I use it to light up my backyard, which would otherwise be very dark. Living in an urban area where sometimes we have helicopters hovering overhead because the police are chasing somebody running through people’s backyards, my 92-year-old mother and I feel a lot safer with this light brightening the backyard. At $9.99 (current price), I would definitely purchase more of these lanterns. Read more
