I’m happy to recommend this media player to anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive, premium feeling music player. It’s basically a small Android phone without the cellular radio and camera. Unlike many similar players—which have plastic shells and screens, this one has a metal frame and the back panel, as well as the scree are glass. It feels great in my hand and has a bit of heft. For those looking for an ultra lightweight, mini player, this isn’t for you. But I personally prefer the size to smaller models because it makes it easier to navigate my music library, while still being a convenient size. I loaded it with music with which I am quite familiar. As one would expect, the builtin speaker might do in a pinch, but isn’t going to make for an optimal listening experience. I’m not a huge fan of IEMs, but I did a quick test and it did at least as well as other music players I’ve tried. Next I tried the Bluetooth streaming: it auto connected to my to my home theater system (via a dedicated streaming box) using the LDAC 24-bit/96 kHz protocol. The player was 8m/26ft away from the streaming box and the audio was perfect. Finally, I tested it with a pair of Edition XS headphones, by plugging the player into a dedicated headphone amp. Again, no complaints with the audio quality. So why did I deduct a star? Because the included 64GB tf card developed an unrecoverable error after I’d transferred about 48GB of flac files. Memory card are cheap so not a big deal. While I’m being critical, I’d also note that the LED used for the screen’s backlight has a poor CRI: reds in particular are muted, and orangish-brown. However, as I’m just using it as a music player (not as a photo/video viewer) and because the screen is clear, bright, and easily readable, it’s not a big deal for me. I have tried a LOT of inexpensive MP3 players, and this one is by far the best for one simple reason: it's Android. Most simple MP3 players use their own cheap OS, which typically lacks important features such as using playlists. This device can do playlists and just about anything else you want. It remains very affordable while also being incredibly versatile. You can access the Play Store and download any music player app you desire, which means that you can get apps that modify playback speed, support different formats, crossfade, etc. Android also allows for peak sound quality. Not only does it have a built-in speaker, but it has a headphone jack and Bluetooth connectivity. Unfortunately, it's not clear which Bluetooth audio codecs it supports. Still, the player works well and comes with plenty of storage (when using the included SD card). This is a great option for an MP3 player, especially for a kid who might need something simpler than a tablet or a phone. A few more notes. Setup is fairly easy since it bypasses the usual Android setup wizard (which is annoying). The player feels sturdy and is a little heavy, but it also has really nice buttons and a good display.
