The first movie has both ghosts and monsters, actions, comedy and sensuous romance. The second focuses more on broad comedy and bigger monsters. No ghosts. Plenty of fast martial art actions. Endearing love triangle. The third delivers loads of zany comedy. Bevy of ghosts. Wonderfully staged wire-work actions. No romance though. All three movies are presented in pristine video restorations. Now viewers can appreciate their impeccable art and set designs. Pleasing and sumptuous cinemaphotography. Clear vibrant costume colors. Fine detailed craftmanship on monsters. Big and small. Shout Studios enclosed decent amount of extras for this boxset. An excellent and loving tribute to Leslie Cheung. It would be much better if they also covered Joey Wong. She was the tentpole of the trilogy. Overall this was ultimate purchase I had been waiting for. At an affordable price. Read more

So glad that Shout remastered and released this awesome trilogy of films! The transfer looked a lot better than my Korean blu ray set and I love all the special features. Looking forward to more 80s and 90s Hong Kong releases from Shout! Having grown up watching most of these on VHS bootlegs, these remasters are a real treat. Read more

I've wanted to see the first film in this trilogy for a long time. Not only did A Chinese Ghost Story not disappoint, but I thoroughly enjoyed the sequels as well. My only complaint? I really wish these had been a 4K UHD set like so many others in the HK Cinema Classics line. That's the lone reason this set missing a fifth star. Read more

Shout got off to a great start with their new Hong Kong line featuring the stellar Jet Li collection and upcoming releases of Peking Opera Blues and City on Fire (not to mention all of the Chow Yun-Fat announced, ALL in 4K. The only problem is that this set is comprimsed of standard issue Blu-ray, not 4K although 4K masters are available. Highly recommend skipping this set for the inevitable 4K upgrades. Read more
