Watch the video on YouTube if you haven't used an SSD case before

LA KristyAugust 25, 2025

Product was very easy to use, but the instructions are incomplete. There are parts included for which there is no instruction, so I'm guessing they assume only experienced techs would be using this. They're wrong. I'm just a user who needed access to data on my hard drive after my laptop stopped working. Initially, bought the wrong type of external drive case, as I hadn't actually opened the laptop. After opening and realizing the drive bay was empty, knew I was looking for an SSD, which was hidden, so took a bit of fiddling. Found it, looked up the chip and landed on this case after carefully reading the reviews. Other reviewers note this feels solid and quality. They are correct. They also note the fan is very quiet. Even holding it up to my ear, I cannot hear it, but I can definitely feel it. I installed the drive, closed it up, plugged it in, it was immediately available. Perfect functionality. Things there was no instruction for IN THE BOOKLET: the plastic adapter. Initially did not use, because I didn't turn the paper sheath over to see instruction for that part. Also the heat shield. Initially did not user because there are no instructions for that at all. Ultimately looked up this device on YouTube and there's a short that does show the heat shield just sits on top of the chip/SSD. Despite my inexperience and need to go back to make these adjustments, the drive worked perfectly without using those two items (my size was the shortest version, so plenty of airflow in there without the shield.) Easy to install. Run cool (when you turn on the included fan).

Bruno Richard HauptmannNovember 6, 2025

All of the data on my Mac Studio now resides on SSD, including Time Machine backups. This may sound like overkill (and it is, sort of), but one thing I hate is waiting for a sleeping hard drive to SPIN UP. No more waiting. I have 3 Acasis SSD enclosures, housing a total of 16TB worth a SSD storage. Plus the built in SDD inside the Mac Studio. All of my data and backups reside on the external SSDs hosted in Acasis exclosures. The only things on the Mac SSD are: Mac-OS, Applications, and the Downloads folder. My data is mine, and I keep it outside of the Mac. I have the smallest SSD you can get on a Mac Studio (0.5 TB) which is currently about half used. The Acasis enclosures have built-in fans, and they run cool all the time. The cost to populate the SSD farm was about the same as I paid for the Mac Studio itself, but well worth it. When I hit the ESC key to wake up the computer, there is no sound. The computer wakes up and is ready to go in less than 5 sec. And that's with two screens that need waking. The Acasis enclosures are TB4 instead of TB5. This is because TB4 is plenty fast enough for random access I/O. The stats quoted for TB5 are mostly for sequential I/O for large files. Unfortunately, most of the computing tasks that 99% of people run 99% of the time, have nothing at all to do with sequential I/O for large files. Anyways, the Acasis SSD enclosures are top notch, easy to install, and they run cool and trouble free. Would recommend. Would buy again, no question. Read more

Great value! Easy setup, cool, quiet!

Lorie B.July 21, 2024

This housing plus a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 SSD helped revitalize my old iMac. Fantastic speeds considering the $225 cost of this 2TB SSD setup. I have partial hearing loss in one ear but I can still barely hear the fan at normal distances. That’s primarily because my iMac is so quiet that it doesn’t mask the fan noise of the housing. Use this on an average PC or laptop like my fairly-high-end Dell and you’d NEVER hear it. Even when I’m doing read/write interesting stuff like transcoding video, this thing never lets the SSD inside it get hot - I’m very impressed. I’m getting 2.2/2.3GB/s performance with this setup using the older Thunderbolt port on my 2017 iMac. Not the best you’ve ever seen but an amazing value that has extended the life of my old box. Fast, Cool, Well constructed, and Tool-less

Lex ThomasFebruary 2, 2025

Overall, this is a very good choice and I'd like to eventually get a couple more of them. The tool-less installation was fantastic. It seems reliable (so far) and fast. The enclosure is much better engineered than any of the other ones that I've used over the years and appears to have good cooling even before using the fan (which is almost silent). Even with a couple of MINOR caveats listed below, I would not hesitate to purchase this again. I chose this TB4 version even though I own a TB5 system due to cost. Hopefully, I'll switch to the 80Gbps version eventually but it's almost double the price of this 40Gbps unit right now. Minor Caveats: 1. The instructions left a bit to be desired for those of us with older eyes. I wasn't sure what to do with the two insulating strips included but I watched a couple of YT review videos which showed me. 2. There is a green power light which I appreciate but I wish they included a fan light to let me know when the fan was on. Minor. 4. There are several similar models. I think the company is continuing to make improvements on this item which is just awesome. I purchased the TBU 405 Pro. I'm using this with a Samsung 990 EVO Plus. Read more

Another great enclosure!

MikeJanuary 2, 2026

I love the tool less design and the compatibility between PC and Mac. The size of this enclosure is similar to the TB501Pro and a little large and taller compare to the TBU405M1. When pairing this with the WD Black 850X, I was able to maintain full speed when transfer 500GB of data. If you are using this on PC make sure you enable better performance and enable writing cache in Device Manager or else your write speed will be limited. This is another great product from ACASIS.
