The fan noise is a problem

AnonyMooseJanuary 11, 2026✓ Verified purchase

Everything works great, lots of ports, two NVMe slots, it feels sturdy, it's a perfect match for the Mini aesthetically and it provides a good gap between it and the Mini for airflow purposes. But man, that fan is just SO annoying! If you turn the dock on, the fan turns on - there's no adjusting it, there's no reprieve, it just drones on. Sure, it's background noise, but as soon as you turn it off you REALLY notice how annoying it was. So if, like me, you are planning on having your Mini on top of your desk, be prepared. I really really like it besides that, so I am considering what I can do to block the noise, but I am also seriously considering returning it in favor of something similar that does not have an always-on fan. Feature rich and well worth the $50 premium over passive port extender.

Very nice space-saver for extra ports! A little pricey if you are only using it for extra ports (like me). Fans are dead-quiet and only activate when needed. Temp (and high current) kills electronics and memory so I'm glad to have the extra cooling for the Mini which otherwise doesn't seem to get good air flow. I haven't used the NVMe SSD bays yet, but since I bought the lowest-memory Mini I expect that it won't be too long before I do. Just waiting until I need it (and memory prices go down over time per Moore's Law). We use our Mini for a lot of photo projects so the SD and TF slots built-in are also space savers for our cluttered desk. Tip: There's a power button on the dock at the front lower right that just applies to the dock. It needs to be turned on for the USB ports to work. The dock exchanges data over the host port- so it subtracts one useable port from back of Mini. The "PD 30W" port connects to external wall-wart for dock power independent of Mini. It's optional, but a good idea especially if you are using the memory bays and really driving those 10G USB and HDMI ports. Plus, should lower current demand on Mini power supply. Read more

A pretty good M4 dock!

Baxter Mullins JrDecember 26, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Like so many docks, they provide 90% of what one wants. Given 2 docks, would provide 99.9%. That said, tit haas provided 16TB SSD space. Overall performance a 9/10. Read more

Overall impression - Nice try but ultimately a fail on the first one shipped to me

S. R. BoveiaJanuary 12, 2026✓ Verified purchase

First impressions: I have two 4TB NVMe drives I’d been using externally with my M4 Mac Mini I put in this device. Inside a minute of starting it, at least one if not both drives reported being ejected incorrectly. I suspect power delivery is sub par. I went with ACASIS because I’ve already been burned by a different device from Orico and they seem to be the only ones even attempting a dual bay device for about $100. Second impressions: worked through the power delivery using a variety of cables to no avail. What finally seemed to solve the problem was simply moving the thunderbolt 4 data cable from the middle to one of the two other thunderbolt ports. So far I’ve had no dropped connections and the drives seen to be doing their job. Final impressions: one of the drive connections is extremely flaky. It works fine until it doesn't. At that point restarting the device doesn't help nor does restarting my computer. I've had disconnect the device from power and my computer, open the drive bay and reseat the drive even though there has been nothing moving the device at all. It makes me wonder if it's a heat thing although the drives haven't been especially hot when I open the drive bay compartment. Yet another update: This device will remain at one star unless I get a functional replacement. I finally gave up on the first one and returned it. I have no idea how the usb ports work since my main desire was to clear up the mess of two external NVMe drives. If that won't work then I don't care if the rest of it works or not. Read more

Love the fit and the way it looks like it came from apple with plenty of ports it is ideal I just wish the majority of the ports were in the back instead of the front for a cleaner look Read more
