You can fit your essentials, but if you need to carry anything extra like a water bottle or a larger item, you're out of luck unless it can be attached outside. The opening is a bit tight too, so getting things in and out takes more effort than with a regular bag. I was a bit puzzled by the snaps at the bottom to "shrink" the bag since the difference of the bag shrunk or not was so negligible.
