There is a little disclaimer. You must like nuanced flavors. This won't punch you in the face like synthetically flavored tea. Also, this is not matcha, this is a green tea that is matcha infused. If you are looking for a matcha powder, this won't satisfy your requirements. But if you appreciate nuance, and want tea, this tea is something else. Stuff like this could be featured in a tea tasting activity in some tearoom. The aroma is not so much the star. It basically smells like Japanese green tea, mostly tart, with heavy marine notes, mingling with a little sweet matcha. The flavor is an absolute song though. It's like an all out war is happening between Japanese green tea and high quality ceremonial matcha, on a battlefield of warm citrus notes and a few faint marine notes. I brewed it per the instructions, 2 minutes in warm ~140°f water, not boiling. The color is an almost neon lime. But not quite neon, since it's not synthetic. There's a few things that are less than convenient. Although it's packed super well, the bag is not resealable without your own clamp. The matcha powder flows out of the porous teabags, caking everything in green powder. And you may need a variable temperature kettle to get close to the recommended temperature, instead of boiling water. In spite of this, it tasted so special to me that I am rating it 5 stars no question, and I am not in the bit upset with its price of about a dollar per bag. Read more
I have mostly tried cold matcha teas so wanted to give this a try. The taste itself is okay and was a bit better after I had added honey. The quality of tea bags was not that super though as these were very compress packed in the pouch. There was a bit of wasted material and very powdery residue as I tried to take out the individual tea bags. When steeping the tea I also noticed small particles settling at the bottom of the cup so the quality of tea used could be improved. Overall, this is an okay tea, I personally did not like the packaging it came in as it ended up with a bit of a residue when trying to get the tea bags out. Read more
This is very light green tea, and it is vibrant green. It is so pleasant to look at! My first time trying gyokuro, my Japanese partner tells me gyokuro is the most expensive and rare, so I had to try it out. To be honest, I can't tell the difference! But whatever, it's good! I grew up drinking green tea all the time and sometimes have matcha. Since it's "matcha green tea" I wasn't sure what that meant, but the tea has some matcha powder in it (I think)as well as green tea leaves. The color is SO vibrant and green! It look so beautiful! it's subtle and mild which I found to be very delightful. It wasn't bitter and I could fully enjoy the flavor in every sip. My grandma always made the most heavy, shibui, bitter green teas for me so if that's what you like, you probably won't get that. I'll be completely honest though... the packaging kind of fooled me - the design and font didn't remind me of anything authentically Japanese so I was skeptical. But I'm a fan!! To me, this has a very light flavor; I can taste the matcha, but it's not as rich as matcha powder. Personally, I think I prefer matcha powder over this tea but it's not a bad drink. This tea produces a clear, light green tea, and after trying it straight with no added sweetener, I found that adding a little oat milk made it quite enjoyable overall. I'm sipping it right now trying to come up with other things to say but alas I'm not a tea connoisseur lol. Box says: made with organic ceremonial matcha, a refreshing toasty blend of Sencha, Macha & brown rice, net wt 20g (0.71 oz), 10 pyramid teabags, USDA organic, K symbol, produced in Japan. Preparation: steep 1 min in 1 cup hot water at 194F / 90C. The teabags come in a sealed inner pouch (not individually wrapped) and are pyramidal shaped with string and tag. The unbrewed teabags have a green tea, grassy aroma (do not smell of toasty brown rice). After steeping per directions, the tea tastes delicious, very smooth and grassy. There is not much taste of a traditional genmaicha (toasted rice flavor) and not as bold as some matcha. Read more
I had a friend recommend I try genmaicha, and I already love matcha, so this combination was perfect for me! Genmaicha is a tea made from a combination of green tea and toasted rice, which tastes just as interesting as it sounds! It has a toasty, almost nutty flavor to it. The matcha flavor is not too pronounced, nor does it have quite as much of a caffeine kick as normal matcha, making it easy to drink and enjoy in the evening without worrying about being up all night. I found this tea to be fairly weak when steeped for the recommended 1 minute, but enjoyed it quite a bit when I left the tea bag in for 2 minutes. Read more
I wanted Aiya Organic Matcha Infused Genmaicha because while I drink a lot of matcha it's been a long time since I've had a genmaicha. Following the preparation instructions it was a completely drinkable cup of tea but not something I would usually drink. It tasted like a light genmachai with little to no matcha flavor.
