So, I originally got this to give to my niece as a birthday present, but when my kids saw it they insisted that we keep it for ourselves and get my niece something different. I can't really say no to the combination of ice cream and science, so I was agreeable to getting my niece a different present. We finally broke this out this past weekend due to an unprecedented Heat Wave coming through in March, and it felt like ice cream was appropriate. This kit is pretty sweet. It comes with a bunch of components that are really cute and clever and really do a nice job of mixing and some science in addition to the sweet treat that is ice cream. Of course, I say that because I enjoyed looking at all the little experiments in the booklet, while my kids were just interested in how to make their favorite flavors. So, I do think that the recommended age range is a little off and that this is better suited for kids who are probably in elementary school and not Primary School. Regardless, it is a good value for the money because there are a number of experiments that can be performed and the kids really like it. I'll start with the only reason I'm giving this a 4 instead of 5 star... during the ice cream making, (we were doing the 2 small ones), the tub that was on the bottom's lid broke. It let ice and rock salt in, and probably plastics, so we ended up with just 1 ice cream. However,.. everything else is super cool. It basically comes with everything you need, minus the literal ingredients. It was very easy to understand and my kids had a blast making their own ice cream! I really love that it is built for experimenting. Each page has a new step and it tells you how to compare the differences from the last one to the new one where you added 1 or 2 additional ingredients. Plus, it has an ice cream experiment journal. This ice cream science kit has been such a fun and unique activity for our family. It doesn't only make ice cream; it actually turns the process into a little science experiment, which I honestly didn't know it did because I didn't read the description fully before I ordered it! The apron and chef’s hat made my kids feel more immersed in the experience, though with four kids there was a lot of bickering over who got to wear them when! The steps are easy to follow and kid-friendly. I really liked the addition of the lab notebook because it encourages kids to observe, record, and think about what they’re doing instead of just rushing through to eat the ice cream.
