Like No Other Mat I Have Used
This mat isn't for every purpose. It is truly like no other mat I have ever used. The first thing you will notice is how heavy it is. And you need to truly understand this, if you are considering one. The listing gives the package weight as 19.16 pounds or 8.69 KG. This is heavy. Moving it is a workout in itself. It isn't prohibitively heavy, but you need to be comfortable hauling around approximately 20 pounds if this is going to work for you. Another thing to be aware of is that it has zero padding. When I practice with it, I have to keep a blanket within reach at all times. For me low lunges, for example, or bow, need a touch of cushioning. This has none. Of course, the conversely makes this matt great for use with balancing and standing poses. If I am using a soft mat, I have to step off of it (for say warrior 3) as my balance is just OK and I prefer a very solid surface. You don't lose any stability at all with this, and my standing as well as balancing poses feel solid and strong on this mat. On my laminate floors it doesn't slip at all. The mat stays exactly where you put it. I also find that my hands have significantly less slippage than usual in poses like three-legged dog. This is the biggest plus for me. I have been frustrated with slippage recently, and this allows me to relax and enjoy the movement without my hands slowly but surely sliding forward in a very distracting way. It is very easy to clean, which is a good thing, as I also found that it shows any marks easily. (Black can do that.) Also, because it is so rigid, it doesn't roll up as tightly as other mats, meaning that it takes up a bit more space for storage. This is a really interesting addition to my equipment, and although I won't be using it for yin, for a vinyasa type flow it is pretty fabulous. Read more
