These 'Amazon Essentials Men's Heavyweight' jean shorts don't fit me like they should fit me. They are made from fairly heavy weight fabric. They do have the details reminiscent of regular jeans. But the rivets, and particularly the zipper, are pretty light duty for jeans. The zippers are rather thin and the pull up tab is a little smaller and thinner than usual. But the fit is more of an issue for me. Photo 4 shows them on me with my size 32 1/2 waist. They're rather boxy around the the crotch area. The cut and construction appears to pull the entire area around the crotch back under the crotch in almost a concentric pleating or shirring with the under side of the crotch at the center. This is why the leg hem in front feels as though it's pulling against my legs as I walk. While they're 2% elastine that isn't enough to give the stretch and flexibility expected of a typical stretch jean or that would ease the hem rubbing against the front of my legs. They may soften a bit after several washings but that won't change the construction. Read more

This is a very nice pair of denim shorts, by Amazon Essentials. The fabric is thick, the rivets are well done, and it has a genuine YKK zipper. The quality of cheap denim has been on a slow decline for quite a while. These shorts are exceptional. The color, style, fit, and price remind me of exactly what I would pick up in the 90's at Kmart. Back then, I just wanted an affordable pair of pants. Looking back on it now, I didn't realize the sheer quality I was getting at a discounted price. The fit is spot on. I ordered my usual size and found them to be very comfortable. There is a slight stretch to them that's not going to gain an inch in the waist or anything, but it does allow for some extra give when bending or squatting. The inseam is right where I like it, directly at knee level. I can't stand it when my shorts sit more than 1/2 inch above my knee. The pockets are also deep. Shallow pockets are never a good thing. Overall, I'm completely satisfied in this pair of shorts. Admittedly, this is the first time I've tried Amazon Essentials clothing and I'm truly impressed. I will probably pick up a couple more pair of these shorts for the summer and I'd like to give their full length jeans a shot too. No negatives to mention, I'm giving these the full 5 stars. Read more
