Purchased this refurbished Airport Express for the purpose of extending my wifi network into the garage. Although this tech is about a decade old, it meets my needs, my service is 400/20, and my main Airport base station (Time Machine) is more than adequate. Ran cable from the garage through the atttic to the Basestation, powered up, and configured through the Airport utility, done! Now I have solid wifi when I’m working out, and the Tesla can download it’s updates fast. Two pro tips: If you are purchasing this Express to increase the range of your network consider choosing the option, “create a new network” during set up. Airport Utility will by default recommend you choose “extend a network (recommended)” but that is usually not optimal, and may in fact slow down your wifi network due to increased headroom. But choosing “create a new network” you are in effect creating a new access point in that area of the house, but is actually in bridge mode and transfer data to/from the Basestation over ethernet. Pro Tip #2: Look at the plastic mounting brackets available for the Express, so you can mount this unit high up your wall, for better wifi coverage. Cheers! Read more
I used this as a way to pair a subwoofer to my Apple TV 4K + 2 HomePods. I've attached instructions on how to set it up. Also for those wondering this is the subwoofer I purchased along with my AirPort Express (Klipsch Synergy Black Label Sub-100 10” + CableCreation 3.5mm to RCA Cable) Below are the steps for setting up the Apple AirPort Express and connecting it to WiFi for those who are new to using it with the Apple Home app/ AirPlay: (1) Plug in the Apple AirPort Express. (2) Plug in the Subwoofer. (3) Connect the recommended RCA cable to both like in the video above. (4) Download AirPort Utility on iPhone or on Apple Computer. I found it easier to use the AirPort Utilitv ann on mv MacRook Pro (2022 M2). (5) Once it detects the AirPort Express, click on its picture. (6) A window will pop up; click "Edit." (7) You'll see options in the top bar for Base Station, Internet, Wireless, and AirPlay. Click on "Wireless," then navigate to "Network Mode" and choose "Join a Wireless Network" from the dropdown menu. Afterward, you should see the Internet connected to the AirPort Express once it reboots, and the status lights will turn solid green. After successfully connecting the AirPort Express to your WiFi, it will function as an accessory. Its a good solution as a backup for the smart audio system. I have a smart sound system that supports airplay, sometimes due to network problems the airplay list doesn’t show up, so I bought this device as a backup airplay device. I connected it to my network and connected the audio jack to the sound system, now i can stream audio from my phone or any device to my sound system. What I like about it is that it can be connected to a sound mixer, speaker, etc through the 3.5 audio jack and it can easily be found in the airplay list. Read more

Use for sound purposes only. Very stable connection for controlling Audio consoles around venues. Wish Apple didn't discontinue them, sad. Buy them because they will not last in the market. It has a 3.5mm connection in the back for playback. Read more

Product arrived looked just fine, but would not reset and transmit, tried the process to hard reset 4 times without any success, airport utility just would not see the Product at all. Started returns process, I guess thats always the risk with refurb products, that they are not as thoroughly tested as you might hope, I do think they did a reset at the seller and checked for the flashing led, but I don’t think they test for transmit using the app, my assumption anyway.
