Great for the price

KrystalFebruary 1, 2023✓ Verified purchase

Perfect for my betta. I would say this more or less maintains the temperature. I have a 5 gallon tank, it raised the temp 4 degrees (from 73 to 77) and now it basically just maintaining that temp, but it isn't going up any more (which is perfect for me). No temperature control, no shutoff. Bare minimum but great for the price and works. Read more

It works!

It does a great job...of getting the temp to 80 degrees, in my environment. I placed it in a 20 qt. clear tote I bought at Walmart, filled with treated water, next morning 80 degrees. I keep my a/c at 77 degrees( here in south Texas that's cool), and the ambient temp of that tote full of water at room temp was 72 degrees, for three days until I added the heater and it went to 80. That's 2 degrees hotter than I keep my tanks so these heaters are useless to me, but they're in perfect order so I'll eat the loss and maybe try to sell them. Other than that they are great little heaters if you need the water at 80 degrees. Read more

Whew that was close

I purchased this heater because I have a 1.5 gal aquascape I was hoping to use for planting/temporary tank for my bettas but this heater sort of set me back. I previously was using a 50w preset tetra heater in this little tank and it kept it at 82 degrees Fahrenheit. A little hot but manageable especially for my betta fish which, from my understanding, are supposed to be kept between 76 - 86 degrees Fahrenheit. I like to stay around 78-80 degrees usually so i figured this would be perfect! Boy was I wrong and I’m glad that my Betta wasn’t in this tank with this heater! I came home the other day to this tank @ almost 113 degrees! The point is/tldr : this little heater packs a punch, however I’m sure if you listen to the manufacturer specifications (like I didn’t) it would work fine. Read more

Too Small

Was too small for my 5 gallon and had to return it. Otherwise, nice sized heater. Read more

OVERHEATED!!

JesseSDecember 9, 2024✓ Verified purchase

I bought this Sept 1st and my window to return to Amazon is gone n the 90day warranty is now technically gone! So ticked! It almost fried my snails! They were all at the top trying to get out of the water! Even my baby snails were trying to get out of their floating tank! This was used in my Aqueon 5.5gallon tank n today I saw the temp 85° now I checked this listing n it doesn't give temp ranges, there's no need for it to be that high! I've just started fish n snail keeping this yr, again been a couple decades, n I thought Aqueon was a premiere brand n I collected 3 tanks worth of Aqueon products along w all the liquids! Smh I get that some things aren't gonna last a lifetime, but I didn't think it would misbehave just 7days past their 90 day guarantee smh the picture attached is when it started to cool down! I guess u get what u paid for. I just would've rather had the heater turn off, not try to fry my snails! Read more

You need to watch it...

I have a female half-moon betta in a ten gallon tank. Her tank doesn't get super cold, but I was just looking to keep it up to temp in the fall and winter months. Ambient heat seemed perfect. First off, the package says it's 15W, but only up to a 5-6 gallon tank, but this advertisement says it's up to ten gallon. I cannot forsee anyone using this heater in a smaller tank. It's fairly large and would take up most of your tank. I do like it for my ten gallon. It's flat and you cannot see it. It's much more pleasing to the eye than my last heater. The one issue I had was I had it plugged in and my heat tape showed her water was well over 82 degrees and climbing. I unplugged it right away. It did not shut off automatically as it was supposed to. I think it's a great heater, but you do need to really keep an eye on it or you'll cook your fish. Totally not a good heater for anything below 5 gallons. Read more

Like thise brand and style

KadyMarch 24, 2023✓ Verified purchase

I've purchased this style and brand before. After almost 3yrs it wasnt keeping this 5.5 gal warm enough anymore. This new one seems to be working well. My betta, Pennywise, seems happier and much more active. I currently use this same brand flat style heater (different sizes/wattages) in both my other tanks... a 10 gal and a 2.75 gal. Those are both about 3yrs old too but still seem to be working and heating just fine. I will continue to monitor them all. Read more

I researched so many heaters before I bought this one for my 3 gallon

MHbusMarch 9, 2020✓ Verified purchase

I have this aquarium: https://amzn.to/2Q1wjiT It's 3 gallons, I previously had a smaller aqueon heater, but I was getting a better fish and so i wanted one that made it warmer. if you're researching aquarium heaters, you probably ran into the same problem that I did. I was looking for an adjustable heater that wasn't too big, had good reviews on amazon (so many listings i read had the same problem listed on multiple reviews), and was 25 watts or lower. I bought another heater before I bought this heater. That heater had problems. The cord was too short, and the heater was way longer than the image on the amazon listing made it look. Also the knob was bright and stood out. So it was unusable and I returned it. If you buy this heater, you need to know that it _isn't_ adjustable. Furthermore, I dont believe that it's even preset at a specific temperature. Basically what this heater does is it's going to raise your water temper a certain amount of degrees above whatever the ambient temperature is. So how much warmer it makes it is going to depend on what the temperature in your house is an how much water you have. My house is usually 70 and this has the temp at 76-78 which is just where I wanted it for my betta fish. So that's my experience. If you're looking to heat up a similar amount of water to a similar amount of heat, this is the heater to get. Also, I like how this is a long black flat plate. I have it hidden behind my plants and I can't even see it which is a huge plus after I had looked at other heaters that had the problem of being too big, ugly, or having light up LEDs Read more
