Extremely Fun and Well-Built Small-Scale Buggy – Great for All Skill Levels!

The ARRMA Typhon GROM is an incredibly fun small-scale buggy! It’s amazing how well it handles for its size — super stable, smooth, and responsive. Even though it’s brushed and not as fast as a brushless version, it’s a blast to drive for kids, adults, beginners, and experienced drivers alike. The construction feels tough, and the plastics look and feel high quality. On my first run, I made a moderate jump and afterward noticed the buggy leaning to one side. A closer look showed one lower arm had cracked at the hinge pin. I reached out to Amazon, and they quickly helped me with a replacement. I also spoke with friends who bash their GROMs hard with zero issues, so I’m convinced I just got unlucky with a weak arm. What really stands out is how quiet and smooth the transmission is — it feels refined for a brushed setup. The electronics are solid, though the 2-in-1 ESC/receiver limits upgrade options unless you add a separate receiver. Still, that’s the trend in most RTRs now. Looks-wise, this thing is handsome! It looks fantastic on the bench and even better in action. At around $139, it’s a great value — well-designed, fun, durable, and backed by a big aftermarket for upgrades. You won’t regret getting one! Read more

Shocked how fun this is for the scale.

The media could not be loaded. I own many hobby grade RCs. ARRMAs, Team Associated , Traxxas, bashers, track cars for racing, ect. And I bought this little Typhon for my daughter to have something small that she couldn't break easily but was still considered hobby grade. And my gosh, this thing is very fun. The speed is perfect for her with the brushed motor, steering is snappy, and yes, its durable. Took a few curb hits like a champ. No broken arms, axles, shocks, nothin. Just a solid little beater. My daughter is 5 and asks all the time to go drive it. Perfect for the price. I slightly wish I got the brushless version.. But idk, it has a purpose and I cannot forget that. Brushless would be just to much. And since this was only 140$. Its not a shot to the wallet and we can just upgrade to something other than a GROM when she is ready. But either/or, awesome car! A fun and durable RC car thats affordable.

I've had this Typhon Grom for a while and it's amazing. It's gone through dirt, grass, and pebbles and its survived many hits, rollovers, flips, and awkward landings. The clipless body helps a lot and the body is thick which is great for bashing. Hex screws make it easy to work on it and accessing the differential requires unscrewing a few screws. It is a little underpowered for its size but at this price it makes sense. The batteries charge quicker than my other batteries and last about 20+ minutes with hard bashing. If you want affordable but durable, get this. I'd recommend buying metal parts and a brushless system for this. It will be even more durable and will bring more smiles. Update: after a couple days running on brushless, the car flipped over and broke the shock tower. It might not seem like much but the shock towers are integrated into the chassis and as a result, will require you to rebuild the entire thing. The review dropped to 4 stars. Still. a great car. New review not as good.

Super fun, very well made race buggy, excellent value, easy to use, good battery life at 15-20 min, looks great, drives great, takes a beating and keeps going, easily repairable but it’s hard to break, faster than expected. Update: First review was with 2s battery. Once I bought a 3s battery and charger, things changed a bit. After reaching about half speed, the rear end wobbled, the faster it went, the more severe the wobble became. The local hobby shop recommended turning down the dynamic stability control, which helped a little. The real eye opener came from purchasing a second blx grom, without the battery and charger. The difference is night and day, as the second car is smooth and stable at all speeds. After carefully comparing them, I found on this one that, the rear suspension arms and hub knuckles are very sloppy, allowing the rear wheels to have excessive play front to rear.. While I had broken a shock on the front from running into a rock, the rear hadn’t really taken any kind of hit. I bought replacement parts, all suspension arms and knuckle hubs, and shocks. The front end replacement went perfect, but the rear had, half the screws stripped before I even got to them. There’s a little grip tightening, but no grip at all loosening. Almost seems like somebody had already taken the rear apart before I got it. I’m waiting for a slightly over size wrench, which will hopefully get the bad screws out. I’m not finding replacement screws on ARRMA’s website, so I’m stuck with having to use lesser quality screws, which is the only screws I can find, so far. This Grom BLX, gets 2 stars. There’s at least 3/8” of slop in the right rear, and 1/4” of slop in the left rear, no wonder it wobbles, the second one I bought is tight, both rear wheels dont have any slop, there’s almost no front to rear movements at all, in the suspension, 1/64” at most, and the screws aren’t already stripped out either. So much fun!!!

OTB, FUN at about 22mph for descent speed. With a pinion and motor mount upgrade, you can get this to about 27mph for like $15 with stock motor. Some people upgrade the wheels to the granite grom wheels to better handle terrain, I've not done this but that seems logical considering it'll bog down in grass over a certain height, I want it to be more "stock" so it maintains buggy and not truggy characteristics. Arrma quality and learning curve. Cheap option for beginners or someone looking to putter around. Comes with everything you need to run it BUT the usb power brick (use your phone one). I have a spektrum smart charger so I had to buy an ic2 to ic3 adapter (SPMXCA320) to use it. It's a g2 battery so the smarts, smarts. It's had a few serious bumps and has held up so it's durable.
