I rarely use the words "outstanding" or "exceptional" in a puzzle review, but both apply in the case of this puzzle. That's because this puzzle provided a novel experience for me. The soft velvet touch of its pieces elevated assembly of the puzzle beyond just connecting pieces of cardboard to make a picture. Yes, the touch was pleasant, but it was also the uniqueness of the visual effect, which I hadn't realized until I was almost done. Usually, I struggle with lighting when working on a puzzle: I need strong light for darker, finer points in the puzzle, but the glare from shiny, or even what's called "matte" finishes, undermines the value of the light - very frustrating. This puzzle has NO glare! To take the picture I uploaded, I used two bright LED lights that covered the whole puzzle table. There was no reflection or glare. Without the glare, it's easier to recognize subtleties in color and pattern that make it easier to reconstruct the picture. This is all due to that soft-to-the-touch velvety surface of the pieces -- that was the highlight of this puzzle for me. But, the non-glare surface wasn't the only positive feature of this puzzle. Every other aspect of the puzzle that I could think of was just about perfect: --The image is a lovely reproduction of an intriguing fine art painting. --The colors are vibrant, making the characters seem to come to life. --The pieces are strong. --The pieces not only fit well together, but they also separate easily so that they won't be damaged when dismantling the puzzle. --There is no problem with "false fitting" pieces. --There was only very small trace of cardboard dust. My family really enjoyed this puzzle! It looks great, but many of the pieces were easy to interchange. First, the print is great! The image is very unique and interesting. Colors are vivid and varied with good contrast. It is a fun image to puzzle together. We also enjoyed the velvet texture. It isn’t over bearing and only slightly noticeable, but overall very pleasant. The puzzle itself is ok. There are many pieces that are too interchangeable. They have almost identical shapes. This artificially increased the difficulty of an overall easy-to-moderate challenging puzzle. Therefore, the image was too heavily relied on rather than piece shape and fit to solve. The leopard print provided the hardest challenge to piece together. Overall, the amazing image and pleasant texture elevated the mediocre assembly of the puzzle to one which I can recommend. Read more
