Sports tape has been a real boon to me for decades because it's SO much more supportive, flexible, versatile, and less bulky than elastic bandages for sprained ankles (my specialty, unfortunately). I've mostly used Johnson & Johnson and Ace, the standard US drugstore brands, and I was curious about this cotton alternative to those products (I think they contain latex, which I'd rather avoid so I don't become sensitive to it). Pros: This CNG sports tape is quite a bit stickier than my old roll of J&J tape (shown on the right in my photo), but not so grippy that it's hard to apply. The tape has serrated edges that are supposed to help keep it securely in place. It's also thicker than the J&J tape so should provide more support. This tape seems reasonably priced to me. Cons: The text on the box says that the tape is easy to tear, which would be handy if you need to use it when you're somewhere without access to scissors, but I couldn't get it to rip it at all. The product packaging doesn't state what this tape is made of, so I have no idea whether it contains latex or what percentage of cotton it has, which seems like basic information that should be provided to consumers. The packaging doesn't say where this tape is manufactured, but the stick-on label on the bottom of the box has some Chinese characters on it. Another form of missing information is a diagram showing how to tape up an ankle injury (or anything else), which the name brands do supply as part of their packaging. ***Addendum: I just rechecked the Amazon product listing, which states that the material is 100% cotton/latex free and that the adhesive is hypoallergenic. I've been using this for a few weeks to tape my feet during Jiu Jitsu practice. It has been a great tape to use to cover large areas of skin, like the top of feet. This helps me to prevent mat burn and has been very helpful when we have been practicing single and double leg take downs. It is a bit to wide to use on fingers and toes, but it is very functional for wrapping feet and wrists. The tape is very tough and does not fall off during practice. The glue is strong enough to hold during at least an hour of practice without failing, but still easy enough to remove without leaving a residue. Its strength means that I do have to use scissors when using it instead of being able to just rip it, so there it is slightly harder to use than cheap athletic tape that you can tear. Overall it is a very strong and reliable tape. For the price, $8.99 at the time of this review, it is well worth the money. If you struggle with finding a strong tape, this is a good choice. Age plus athletics means more tape use as time goes on. This is one of the better options I have found. It's thick and sturdy and sticky enough to stay put during workouts. So good that it hasn't come off mid-session with sweat. The thickness of the tape makes it a little difficult to cut by hand so I keep some small scissors in my workout bag to cut the tape. My daughter gets a lot of rips from gymnastics. This athletic tape is great for holding bandages in place while still allowing her to practice. It’s a nice thick tape and is super sticky. It lasts a long time, it doesn’t peel off on its own, we have to peel it off when we are ready. Read more

This 1.5 inch athletic tape is exactly what it's supposed to be from my experience - a stabilizer. I tape my ankles to play volleyball after having torn my ligaments in both ankles from extreme sports, and twice while playing volleyball from improper landings on other people's feet. I cannot do any jumping sports without proactive protection or it's a guaranteed injury. The only way to prevent those injuries at this point in my life is to use this exact kind of tape. This tape is not meant to be like duct tape, it's meant to be layered and used as a structural support aid. This particular tape worked very well! What is love about this tape brand is that it stays put while you use it, doesn't hurt upon removal, it's non-irritating, it's soft, and doesn't leave a ton of residue on your skin like some brands do. There is plenty of length in here, so the value for your money is great, and the thickness provides so much more support than 1 inch tape does. It is easy to remove from the roll, no scissors needed, and tears cleanly. Overall, for the ease of use, performance, thicknese, and value, I would highly recommend this tape!
