The construction is excellent; all but two of the seams are flat-lock sewn, and the other two are overlock/serged. The two odd exceptions are the slit over your nose and the slits for your eyeglasses; they aren't stitched at all. Of course, they shouldn't have much stress on them, so they doesn't need stitching as much. The material is very soft and stretchy - not completely wind proof because it is possible to breathe through it, but still nice and warm. I couldn't breathe through it easily while running; it restricted my breathing too much. It should be just fine for hiking. The magnetic attachment of the piece that goes over your mouth is quite nice and extremely easy to use - you can flip it down with one hand; it stays attached because it is sewn in place at the bottom. Flipping it back up is equally easy; the magnets position it correctly without any effort or thought from you. However, this means that there isn't any in-between position; you can't position it over your mouth while leaving your nose uncovered. It has some ventilation holes over the mouth and it has a slit for the nose, but the slit is quite a bit too high for me to breathe through. This means that it wouldn't work well for running, but should be just fine for hiking, skiing, or other activities that aren't as aerobic. It has some good reflective bits on it, particularly on the back, so you could use it while out at night and it would add a measure of safety. It won't be as warm as the Clothclose balaclava that kept me warm in -2C/28F weather with a 25 to 30 Km/hour (15 to 25 MPH) wind (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FGJJ6CB3), but it should be good down to just above freezing (with no wind). There is only one size and it is a bit loose on me, but stays up over my nose with no problem. My head is 47cm/18.5 inches around measuring the shortest path across the bridge of my nose. Definitely four stars - or five stars if easy access to your mouth is more important than ultimate warmth.
