I ended up buying four of these converters to connect several older devices to modern HDMI TVs, and they all worked as expected. Setup was straightforward — plug the RCA cables into the converter, connect HDMI to the TV, and power it with the included USB cable. The picture quality is about what you’d expect when converting composite video to HDMI. It’s not going to turn an older signal into true HD, but it displays the image clearly and makes it easy to use older equipment on newer displays. I tested them with a few different devices and they worked without any issues. They’re also small enough to tuck behind a TV or entertainment center without taking up much space. Overall, this is a simple and effective solution if you need to connect older devices like retro game systems, VCRs, or DVD players to an HDMI-only TV. Read more

I bought this to run my old Wii on a newer TV with only HDMI inputs. It works fairly well and doesn't seem to introduce too much lag. I will warn you, however, that it needs to be plugged into a USB port constantly in order to work. The Wii has USB ports, but if your device doesn't, you'll need an adapter for that as well. Easy to use, though; just plug and play. Read more

I needed a down and dirty solution to connect an old Karaoke player to a big screen TV and sound system at my grand daughter's reception. This was a cheap solution and it worked just fine. It won't win any prizes for build or USB connections (a funky, no longer supported USB charging port, but you get the cable for it), but the audio and video to HDMI worked great, permitting the entire party to singalong to the karaoke. This converter box is pretty well-made, and was very easy to use. There is minimal lag in the conversion between formats, but there is a very little bit still there. I use this box to convert HDMI to an audio coaxial, so I could hook it up into my Buttkicker base shaker. While the lag is there, for that functionality it’s a little less noticed. Nonetheless, it’s good to know before buying! I do appreciate how small the box is, and while it’s too bad you have to supply power externally, I guess it makes sense that the HDMI can’t power it. Purchased the unit and it was delivered the next day 4/11/2024. I wanted to use the unit with an old Sony Tape Player, and an old Sony 5 disc CD Player. Fortunately, I had the appropriate connections to use from both of the players to the unit, as well as an HDMI for the other connection to a speaker system. In addition, I had a required plug in electrical conversion piece used for some old items that required it for charging. For ease of use, I decided to connect the unit to an older Sharp TV through one of the HDMI ports to play both players through the TV stereo speakers, without having to rewire anything else. CD Player: Only two of the three connections are required for this purpose, since my old CD player had only two outlet connections for stereo play. Turned on the TV, placed several discs into the CD player and hit PLAY. The TV indicated no signal, but the sound came through the TV stereo speakers with nice sound (used the TV remote to change sound volume). When the initial disc completed play, the next disc was loaded and player kept working. Only issue with this setup, the Artist and Song Titles did not show on the screen without a third signal connection. Once this setup was used for music background during our dinner hour, I decided to explore the Tape Player setup. TAPE Player: this player is a very old Sony unit, for DVD and Tape play. Replaced the two plug wires from CD player and inserted the three plug wiring from the Tape Player. My Tape trial play was a very old original Avengers tape, Steed & Ms. Peel, episodes. The display on the TV, black and white, was not as sharp as current projections, but was viewable with no distortions, and excellent sound. My DVD trial was from the original Spiderman movie. Very good video and sound through the movie. CONCLUSION: For my purposes this inexpensive little box has allowed me to use some “old players” and enjoy old items that I thought were lost to me forever. For that I give it the highest rating possible! Read more

Now I can play my Nintendo on my 55 inch Hisense tv. I had an old tv but it died. This has allowed me to revisit my childhood. I’m afraid to try duck hunt on the 4k tv though. Read more

For the time that it DID work it was amazing...then 4 days ago the audio went out on it and then yesterday the picture went out and this last time was accompanied by a hot plastic smell.. the unit was warm and since then nothing has functioned at all...every time I turn it on theres nothing, no sound, no picture... it just heats up a bit and stays that way. It's possible that this is a one off sort of deal and like I said originally for the time it worked I was pretty impressed...though admittedly it hasn't left the best impression on me... I won't be buying it again Read more

I bought this mainly to use with an original Xbox, and it works as expected. Picture and sound come through HDMI without issues, and setup is straightforward. The video quality is about what you’d expect from an AV-to-HDMI converter, not perfect, but totally playable. It’s a solid solution if you’re trying to hook up older consoles to a modern TV. Overall, it does what it’s supposed to do and gets classic systems up and running again. Read more
