This was my first straight razor, and frankly, I love it. It gets a closer shave than you'll get with any other kind of razor and it comes with quite a few replacement blades to keep you going for a while. It could do with some visual instructions, as this was my first straight razor and I needed to look up a quick video of how to properly set it up for use, but the actual product itself is outstanding and has become my main shaving utensil. Sometimes I want to give an old fashioned shave. Maybe I'm crazy, but I use these single-blade types occasionally. I mostly like this one... except they included a box of double-sided blades - more on that later. What you get is the main razor, a pack of 10 standard double-sided blades, and a plastic storage pouch. The components of this razor are almost identical to some other brands I own. As far as these types of razors go, this one's pretty decent. The hinge is tight, but not too tight. The halves were easily separated, and the clip hold it firmly in place. There is a screw on the hinge where you can adjust the tightness. If you've never used one of these before, watch a few videos and prepare to get a few nicks until you get the hang of it. The hardest part is shaving the side of your face of your non-dominant hand - you either have to get at a difficult angle with your dominant hand, or learn how to shave with either hand. I usually do a combination of both. The real hang-up with this razor is the blades. Usually this type of razor comes with a pack of standard half-blades, but this one comes with standard double-edged blades. You can't load a full-sized blade in this type of razor, so you will need to break the blades in half instead. You want to do this while the blade is still in the wax paper wrapper, and be very careful not to . I had to fold mine almost entirely in half before the metal finally snapped, and it left a curled edge where it bent. This edge made it a little harder to load. Also, you have to store the other half of the blade until some future shave. As for the shave, you're in full control. Making clean lines is easy, but so is nicking yourself. If done properly, this could be one of the closest shaves you get. These types of razors are especially good at clearing away thicker growth without getting clogged like a cartridge razor would. You'll want to use a good shaving cream/gel/soap and follow up with a lotion afterwards. This would be much better suited if they had just included the half blades. There's enough risk of getting cut during the shave as it is. There's no need to add more by having to snap blades in half. This razor looks great and feels solid in hand. The finish is nice and the minimalist open design gives it a clean, premium look. Once set up correctly, it shaves well and does what it’s supposed to do. It is designed to use snapped half blades, which is mentioned in the instructions. When installed properly, the latch closes fully and the blade is held in place. The downsides are the blade installation and the included blades. Getting the blade seated correctly is a bit clunky and takes more fiddling I would like. I also noticed slight blade movement once installed. It’s minor, but noticeable. Using factory pre snapped half blades would likely improve blade stability, and something as simple as a small magnet to help locate and hold the blade during installation would make this design much better and more confidence inspiring. Overall, this is a good looking, well made razor that performs well. With better blade handling and a smoother loading process, it could easily be a 5 star product. Read more

I really wanted to like this straight razor because the concept is great and the price point is appealing, but unfortunately this one has major safety issues that can’t be overlooked. The biggest problem is that the blade does not stay securely in place. During use, the blade shifted and partially slipped, which resulted in me cutting myself very easily. A straight razor already requires care and experience, but when the blade isn’t firmly locked in, it becomes genuinely dangerous. This completely defeats the purpose of “precision shaving” and makes it unsuitable for beginners or even cautious users. The included blades are very sharp, which is expected, but paired with the insecure blade housing, that sharpness becomes a liability rather than a benefit. I double-checked that the blade was installed correctly, yet it still felt loose and unstable while shaving. Build quality overall feels lightweight and cheap. While the handle looks fine visually, it doesn’t inspire confidence in durability or safety. For a grooming tool that’s meant to be used close to the face, stability and secure blade retention are non-negotiable, and this razor falls short there. On the positive side: It does include 10 replacement blades The size is compact and travel-friendly The price is low However, even at this price, safety should come first. I would not recommend this razor as-is, especially when there are other straight razors available with much better blade locking mechanisms. If Beard Butler improves the blade holder design so the blade truly locks in place, this could have potential. Until then, I’d advise looking elsewhere to avoid injury. Read more
