Very convenient for sharpening hook knives and stropping regular knives. I haven't used the sandpaper much, but the stropping compound has been great for honing my gouges and hook knives. I find this easier to hold than a dowel for honing my hooked knives, and it can be more securely clamped to a workbench than a round dowel can be. Worth the investment? Yes! Even though I keep a flat leather strop next to it, I can actually use this sharpener for flat blades, too. But try to sharpen or strop a gouge or carving hook on anything else...this does the job flawlessly. What amazed me was how well made this tool is. It is a nice large size that matches my diamond plates in dimension. If there is one wish I have, it would be for one edge to on opposing sides to have a much tighter radius to accommodate smaller gouges. Read more
