I’ve been dealing with a very itchy scalp for years now. I’ve tried other shampoos and they’re either not helpful or the smell is too much. This shampoo does have a strong scent but it goes away when your hair is dry. I have a very strong sense of smell so that’s important to me. I’ve been to the drs and they said to use something with tar and salicylic acid so this is perfect. It doesn’t make the problem go away because apparently these skin issues can’t be fixed but only managed. This is an affordable and easy option to help me manage it! Works pretty well for reducing dandruff symptoms. It does have the strong smell that others report. I follow it with a selenium sulfide shampoo and then a 2 in 1 zinc shampoo and conditioner, and the smell is still detectable, but not too bad. It does help with scalp issues though. I spray combs and brushes with rubbing alcohol to sanitize after each use, and have started changing pillowcases daily. The shampoo and other products have helped, and I am hopeful that the other steps will enhance the effectiveness. Read more
I have used this for awhile now because I wanted to see if it worked for more than a few weeks; so many others offered only temporary relief but this one has! No dry scalp that itched like mad, no flakes and no bumps. I’ve tried so many otc and dermatologist own concoctions but nothing has worked for over 30+ yrs. When using, a little goes a long way, I leave it on for at least 5 minutes and another thing that I like, it doesn’t make my hair dry like all the others have done. I also use a thick conditioner on the lengths of my hair only. I don’t care that it smells medicinal, I appreciate that it has normalised my scalp more than I can say. So grateful to have found this by chance. It is worth every cent and for me, the bottle lasts longer than others I have used before. Will be buying regularly. Edit: The company reached out and apologized for my severe sensitivity reaction and refunded my order but did NOT ask me to edit my review. If they had, I would have turned down both the refund and the edit. It's been a few months, and they still haven't reached out to ask me to change anything. They don't have objectionable ingredients, I think it was just the combination of so many strong active ingredients that did my scalp in. Another unexpected plus is that I had an issue with severe dry skin last month that wouldn't clear up (after mopping my bathroom with a cleaner that contained bleach while I was barefoot and too sick to think straight and put on slippers) - after a couple weeks of flaking calluses, I tried this stuff on them and my skin finally calmed way down by the next day. So it's useful for less sensitive areas, even for my annoyingly overreactive skin. Raised rating to 3 stars for ethical customer service and my disappointment in the product fading after figuring out a different use case for it. Original Review: Not only did this NOT help with itching, but for the first time ever in my life, just a few hours after using it, my entire scalp broke out in rosacea (psoriasis) welts/hives. And that's on top of the intense coal tar/sulfur smell that continues to be incredibly persistent now 2 days later. Just don't buy this. You think it'll help? I have a sensitive scalp and have done everything I can think of to keep flakes at bay without much luck. That’s why I am so grateful I came across this purchase. So far, it works really well. The smell isn’t that bad, especially if you are used to using medicated shampoos. I just use my good smelling shampoo after this one to help. I also want to note that I am Caucasian with thick but smooth textured hair, color-treated, and I do have sewn in hair extensions. No notable damage or fading so far so I give this two thumbs up and highly recommend!!! Read more
I'm a huge fan of the original offering from the company, Clark's Full Spectrum dandruff shampoo. When I saw the variation, Berk's Full Spectrum with rosemary oil I thought to myself "Well I like smelling like gasoline and not having a dry itchy scalp... so sure. Let's throw some rosemary oil into the mix and see if that's good too." So far, so good. Same great benefits from using the original formula, slightly improved smell, and rosemary oil is good for your scalp and seems to be having a positive effect. I'll likely keep using Berk's over Clark's for the foreseeable future. Read more
