I recently installed the Grout in Shower Shelves with Hooks (304 Stainless Steel, Brushed, 10’’ x 10’’) in my tiled corner shower, and I’m beyond impressed. I'm really impressed with the quality of these shelves. They're made from high quality stainless steel that doesn't bend or give. The perforations allow for easy drainage and the five hooks are convenient. My one complaint is that only one shelf can accept hooks. The other shelf just has the turned edge but nowhere to attach hooks. It would be nicer if I could put some on one and some on the other, rather than however many on just the one shelf. The hooks also have a small hole in them, which could be handy to better anchor the hooks instead of just having them swing freely. I do like how the shelves have tabs for strength and support from the tile itself. Installation isn't quite as easy as the directions provided, because you can't just hold the shelf up to the wall and mark the tabs. If you do that, one side or the other will be off by the depth of the opposing side. No big deal; just measure the distance of the tabs and mark. These are a great improvement to the ceramic tile shelves originally installed in our shower. These are larger and can hold more with the hooks and the hole that can accept a razor or perhaps a small handled scrub brush or squeegee or loofah. I would have appreciated if the underside of the shelves had been buffed or somehow smoothed. The shelves are clearly stamped from above, which leaves a very slight flange on each edge on the underside. Though I doubt it will happen, it's perhaps possible that skin made tender by showering could get sliced by the underside of the shelves. The reason I don't give five stars is because of the inability to put hooks on both shelves and also for the less that I deal finish on the bottom that may cause cuts or catches. These are nicely made, well finished corner shower shelves that are a great value versus the name brand ones. While the listing photos are accurate, I'm not sure that I personally like the thick edge on this shelf as opposed to the thin, edgeless designs also available from this company. It has a more traditional look, in my opinion, which some may prefer. The turned edge does add stiffness to the shelf and allows for the adjustable hooks. There are several ways to install these, I've only done it while building a new shower but you can grind out existing grout and caulk the shelf into place in an existing shower as well. As long as the grout line is thick enough, the shelf should slide in and be held in place with adhesive caulk. As long as you don't use it to stand on, it should be strong enough for most any shower item. Overall, these are a great value from a brand I've come to trust. Read more
These are great shelves, and although I've never done it I liked the concept of mounting them into the grout. It basically uses the tile as floating shelf brackets. The instructions say to remove the grout where the shelf brackets go, and then insert the shelves and seal with caulk. It looks a little labor intensive, and of course you need the right tools, but it's a really cool concept! Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be putting them up, at least not in the shower. The shelves are stainless, and on the top of the shelf they have a really nice, clean finish. They're thick and sturdy, and they have drain holes throughout the top which I really like, and a utility hole for a razor or maybe loofa stick which is also theoretically helpful. The problem is that while the top of the shelves are smoothed and the holes rounded downward so they're safe to the touch, the bottoms are very unfinished. They're not razor sharp per se, but they are not what I'd call safe. I wouldn't want my daughter anywhere near them, at the right angle these can definitely cut you. The underside of the front edge is the same way, if you were to run your finger along that rim it could bite you for sure. The hooks are really neat, and I love the concept of those too! They aren't finished as cleanly as the shelves, you can see where they tapered and filed them, there's a distinct dull spot in the finish on every hook. Overall I wouldn't call these shower shelves, at least not in a family shower, maybe something more industrial style. But I think they're going to be great little corner shelves in my workshop! I am just going to figure out how to secure them to a regular wall bracket since I won't be doing the tile mounting method. Read more
