I’ll start by saying I completely don’t get the whole PrevaGuard thing BIC is doing with their pens. I don’t know how a pen could stop germs long-term. I’ve finally decided I don’t really care about that one way or another. I have no way to test it anyway and I’m chalking it up more to marketing during a pandemic. So, that whole “feature” is off the table as far as my review is concerned. What I will say about BIC’s PrevaGuard Round Stic Ballpoint Pen (Blue, 1.0 mm Medium Point Size, 12-Count) is that the blue ink color is very light compared to most blue pens. It’s readable but it is light. I suppose it comes down to personal preference in how bold and dark you prefer your ink. It reminds me of some of the colors I’ve gotten with gel ink, although this isn’t gel ink. Personally, I’m okay with the color. It’s just not typical. The pen does write smoothly and is comfortable to hold. There is no smudging or pooling of the ink. I’m not left-handed, but those who are should be able to use this pen without any problem. I’m also not having any problem with ghosting, but I suppose that’s an advantage of a lighter ink. This pen works fine for my day-to-day uses. It’s a functional pen, but I wouldn’t use it for things like journaling. They’ve gone up almost a dollar since I got these pens. I feel they are pushing to higher limits of what these pens are worth at the current price of $6.42. But then everything seems to be going up in price right now. The bottom line of this pen will probably be if the lighter ink color is okay for your needs. Read more

As pens go this is a good pen. The ink flowed nicely and it didn't created any ink blobs. Although it states its a medium tip, I found it to be on the thinner side which is what I prefer. The blue ink is also on the lighter side but that could be because the ink flow is less with the smaller tip. The Preva Guard is to prevent bacteria growth as well as mold. I don't share my pens but if I did its nice to know BIC has me covered. Read more

Not too much to say about these pens. These are the type of pens you see sitting on counter tops and desks in businesses everywhere you go. Why is that exactly? Well because these are Bic pens and Bic makes good reliable smooth writing pens and I needed some pens here at home so I got these. The price is right for the box and I love the way they write. Nice and smooth which is how I want my pens to feel when I write with them. These are great and they don’t break the bank. Read more

I am a transplant recipient and one of the first things my team taught me at the time of my transplant nearly 10 years ago was to avoid sharing pens - to always carry my own pen - and I keep several in my car, there are always one or two in my jackets and I try to keep one in my pants pocket. The idea of this pen interested me from the bacteria prevention perspective. On further reflection, I realize that I don't share my pens and, even with this pen in my pocket, I plan to keep it that way. I suppose for someone who works in a medical office/lab testing environment these pens make a lot of sense. The pens themselves are fine - a bit thin for my liking - but they do write smoothly and BICs are known to have much more ink than I can use before I lose them or put them through the wash. BIC was kind enough to send me some of these pens to test and review. I work in a busy office and have been using them exclusively for the past 3-4 weeks. For a fairly thin pen, they are incredibly durable. They write very smoothly with no snagging. The ink flows nicely and I have not noticed any smearing or bleeding. At first they look like your standard BIC pen, but these PrevaGuard pens are designed to suppress bacterial growth on the surface, which I think is quite a unique concept. Overall, they provided me with what I needed, a functional and reliable pen that happens to come with bonus PrevaGuard technology.
