No complaints with the kit, it comes with most everything nodded to do a thread repair. It includes the tap drill, the inset tool, and the tang punch tool sized for the insert. Each bag of inserts is plenty for a repair, and I can always buy more inserts if needed. My specific repair required a complete machinist drill bit set (113 drills, letter and number and fractional sizes). I repaired a brand new aluminum shock tower for a VW SUV. I made a mistake using anti seize on a bolt, and over torqued the M10-1.5 bolt, and sheared all the aluminum threads in one of the tower mount holes (NOOOOOO!!!!). Well, it took two days for the repair kit to arrive, and I stepped the drill size up from an M10 tap drill to the M10 insert drill from the kit, 7 drill steps in total. so the hole would remain straight. It's critical for most thread repairs to follow the existing hole straight. The most difficult step to installing thread repair inserts is keeping the tap straight, SLOW AND STEADY and with great care and pressure, I managed to start the tap into the aluminum shock tower hole and made sure it was very straight. It was nice the shank of the tap is smaller than the pilot hole, this made it possible to tap the entire way through the hole. I screwed 2 insets into my newly tapped hole, one almost all the way to the bottom, break the tang, then another on top of that. It worked PERFECTLY, and I was able to remount and save my shock tower. Full torque too, no issue! A forever repair. This set came in handy when I broke an aluminum transmission bolt. Ended up damaging the treads on the transmission bolt hole so I used this kit to drill out the hole, re-tap the hole and install a heli-coil to match the original bolt size. Fairly straight forward. Everything in the kit is labeled making it user friendly. I did have to use my own T handle to hold the tap since the kit did not come with one and I wasn't comfortable putting the tap in a drill. The installation tool in this kit caused more problems than it solved. It damaged the tang and distorted the inner threads on multiple helicoils — I had to remove and replace three of them. Now the fourth one is stuck inside the intake manifold bolt hole (right up against the firewall), and the tang sheared off during install. I bought an extractor from Harbor Freight, but I still can’t get the tang out due to how deeply it’s wedged — and the limited space makes it even worse. The inserts themselves seem fine, but the install tool lacks precision and can easily wreck the coil or your project if you’re not extremely careful. If you’re using this for something critical or hard to reach, I’d recommend a better-quality kit or at least a more reliable install tool. **The installation tool wrecks the helicoil tangs to the point that you can’t run any new bolt through properly*** Read more

I used this kit to repair a bolt that snapped off on my Chevy 327 Tunnel Ram this bolt also held down the throttle bracket. This kit worked fantastic as you can see in the photos. Everything is now secure. If I had to bring this to a mechanic I would have had to pay 100s of dollars. Photo 1 is the bolt that snapped off in the manifold, Photo 2 is the insert that had come with the kit after I have drilled out the hole used the tap and die bit and screwed in the insert. Photo 3 shows the bolt that is installed with the nut all is secure. Always use oil when drilling and also when using the tap and die bit. Clean out the hole after you have drilled before inserting the insert. Read more
