I’ve used an IPL device from Philips before. No issues with usage, so I know what to expect. The first moment I go to use this piece of built in Shenzhen junk (and China CAN make some amazing products, but this ain’t it), I hear a god awful loud BANG… Along with a burning smell from the device (hopefully covering up the smell of a little poo that came out). My first thought is that the bulb exploded. Nope, nothing. No heat on my skin, no glass fragments thankfully…and the bulb looked fine? I can only assume that it was a fuse or step-up transformer inside the unit that was defective. I can’t emphasise enough how loud this bang was. I was trying to zap the weird monkey hair off my shoulder when this thing went off, so it was right next to my ear. Had to be one of the loudest noises I’ve heard in a while, and that’s saying a lot living next to construction sites and working with jets. I didn’t dare try again. The build quality also feels quite cheap. The buttons and casing feel quite low grade in terms of plastics. Even the box feels a bit … juvenile? With that in mind, proper trusted brands have products for a similar price, so I don’t see the value in this thing.
