This set is exactly what I expected. These dumbbells are a quality product, I store them on the Body Solid 3 tier rack and they all fit on the rack. Here's what you need to know; They show up in a cheap crate that's just welded metal strips for a frame and cheap plywood. Inside are individually boxed dumbbells, so you'll end up with a lot of cardboard. The dumbbells smell like rubber but that goes away after awhile. As other reviewers have said, they are greasy. I took the time to wash each of them in the kitchen sink with dish detergent. I've had no issues with them leaving marks on anything. Each dumbbell has a made in China sticker on it, I removed those while I cleaned them. I broke down the crate by breaking the wood into smaller pieces. If you can't do this, lift these weights for awhile and you'll be able to. I then hacksawed the frame apart to fit in my garbage can. These are gym-quality weights, very solid, and well made. The rubber coating provides extra protection from drops or even scrapes against walls or other equipment - better to have a scuff mark than a dent or scratch. Delivery was excellent and their service to work out delivery options was fast and responsive. The driver got the entire set into my garage (only my wife was home at the time of delivery) which was above and beyond as far as I'm concerned - that may not be the kind of service everyone gets depending on how they are shipped. I took the advice of another reviewer and wiped these down with some old wash rags to get rid of the oil coating on the exposed metal, and whatever else was on the rubber - 2 very black rags later the weights were clean and the rubber smell was greatly reduced. I left them in the garage for another 2 days to "gas off" a bit more and have only the faintest rubber smell left once bringing them inside. Yes the smell is strong at first, but follow these steps and it should not be an issue. I've ordered a few other items from Body Solid and everything has been excellent so far. BOUGHT THIS SET FOR P90X. GOOD QUALITY, ALTHOUGH RUBBER MARKS ALMOST EVERYTHING IT COMES IN CONTACT WITH. NOT REALLY A PROBLEM FOR ME SINCE I DO MY WORKOUT IN THE BASEMENT. NOT IDEAL FOR UPSTAIR LIVING SPACE. RATHER PRICEY TOO BUT STILL SAVED ABOUT $300 BUYING FROM AMAZON COMPARED TO LOCALLY. OVERALL I AM SATISIFIED WITH THE PURCHASE- AMAZON WAS GREAT ON THE SHIPMENT EVEN THOUGH THE FRIEGHT COMPANY TOOK DOWN SOME FIBER OPTIC LINES IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ON NEW YEARS EVE. POOR GUY WAS STUCK FOR 4 HOURS BECAUSE THEY HAD TO MAKE SURE THERE WERE NO LIVE WIRES DOWN. Bought these after much research and based on the positive reviews on Amazon. As I was unloading the first dumbbell, it lightly brushed up against my clothing and left a stain from the black dye coating the rubber. I finally got the stain out after several rounds of Oxy Clean. Be forewarned, the black dye rubs off VERY EASILY - just a light rub turns a paper towel black. To make matters worse, the dumbbells arrive heavily coated in oil, making them slippery to hold. I contacted the seller to ask about these issues. They were completely silent on the black dye problem, leaving me with a very expensive product that I can't use. I don't know whether these were a defective batch or what, but definitely be forewarned, as the black dye is extremely difficult to remove from clothing. I am not happy that body solid is no longer using the large numbers to identify the weight of each dumbbells. They have vey small number with body solids name above and below the number. The picture currently shown on amazon.com does not represent the actual item you will receive. I like the grip on these weights - hate the sacrifice of large numbers for name recognition! Read more
I ordered these expecting the same quality as the gym, but was dissapointed. Right out of the box, the rubber shows signs of seperation, and cracks. Rubber is cast on with a two piece mold. I have a feeling in a couple years, the rubber will fall off, especially with heavy use. If I had seen these before buying, I would've saved alot of money and skipped the rubber coating in favor of the much cheaper plain cast iron heads. Read more
