Very strong. I am using it to extend the life of my work shoes (composite toe) as the rubber soles came off of the shoes. Bates brand shoes failed after 1 year of light use. I didn't want to throw the shoes away as they are almost brand new. I used Shoe Goo to glue the rubber soles back to the shoes. After allowing it to fully cure (48 hours to be safe), I used this Toe Protector to seal the seams between the shoes and the rubber soles. This is the second time I have bought this product. I use my boots even in water at work and they are Red Wings. I regret buying those boots. This is a must-have if you own Red Wing boots. This epoxy is awesome, I wear my boots in oil and water hydraulic fluid Etc, this epoxy is waterproof and it's good stuff very tough and I would highly recommend it don't know what they put into it but it works great. If you get suckered into buying Red Wing boots this is a must have for those because you going to need it after about 6 months. I will never buy Red Wing boots again (did i say that again). But I will buy this epoxy from these guys in the future to repair my boots and I'm even thinking about using it to waterproof things as well. Don't leave home without it LOL Read more
I've used this product on at least five pairs of work boots and the rest of the boot always wears out before the tuff toe does. I do commercial flooring, so I spend a lot of time on my knees and dragging my toes. This stuff holds up remarkably well. I generally wear a new pair of boots until the toes start wearing through just a little before I put the tuff toe on, but that doesn't take long. The application isn't the most user friendly. Getting the applicator gun helps a lot, but it's still a little tricky, especially if you're trying to get a nice, smooth, shiny finish. If you mask off the area of your boots with painters tape and make slow passes with the liquid it will blend together but gravity will still want to pull it down and it may pool towards the bottom of you go too fast or too thick. Going slowly and being patient so that you don't have to spread it together with the applicator stick is the only way to get it smooth and shiny. But not too slowly otherwise it will start to set and not blend. It's a fickle goo. I don't particularly care what it looks like on my work boots, so I just get it on there and make sure it covers. It dries quickly so, if I have any left over after the initial coat, I will add a little extra to the very front of the toe since that's the highest wear area for me. Also, don't forget to remove the masking tape before it dries. I think the directions say after five minutes, but I don't think you even want to wait that long. As soon as it's not moving and spreading on it's own, pull the tape, otherwise it's going to get trapped. It's a little expensive for what it is but I haven't found a better option and if it prolongs the life of my boots for 6 months or so, which it definitely does, then it's absolutely worth it. And again, the applicator gun makes it a whole lot easier to work with, so if you plan on doing this more than once, I think it's worth getting that accessory too. Read more
I’ve had these on my boots for roughly 3 years now and they are just starting to brake down, I work in hot asphalt and around harsh chemicals. These probably would have lasted longer if I didn’t hit my boots with the shovels a few times that’s how everything started to brake down. Definitely worth the money for the length I’ve had them on. By far the best toe protector. I work on steel staging planks and kneeling down and moving with destroy my toes. Not only are my boot toes intact, but the toe protection itself is still in great shape too. Plus you end up with alot of extra product, you could probably buy one pack and protect 3+ pairs of boots. Some of the work boot brands are getting wise and adding cap toe options. Not all though. That's why we have Tuff Toe. How well does it work? Perfectly. I have saved myself thousands of dollars in prematurely destroyed boots with Tuff Toe. I work as an automotive technician, we always blow the toes out of our boots first. This prevents that. The instructions seem a bit aggressive. They want you to sand half the leather off before you lay a coat down. This is very dependent on boot leather type! Most do not need that much. Just enough to get the shine off and rough it up a bit. They also suggest a second coating, I find that not really necessary typically. It is indeed 'Tuff', I have yet to wear through it on my boots. The boots eventually wear out, the Tuff Toe is still fine. Read more
We bought this item to help protect my husband's work boots which they are very sturdy, but to be honest putting it on is a challenge. The reason why it is challenging because if you are not quick and careful it dries fast and you would not be able to fix it and if you do not stay close to your strokes you can see the little spots and I advise not to go over it again. Bought a pair of redwing shoes with steel toes and the toes started to shred almost immediately. Tough toe is a no-brainer, but you are better off taking your boots to the shoe store to have done. You will get better results. Read more
