I purchased the ByoWave Proteus Builder One-Handed Gaming Controller for my dad, who has advanced Parkinson’s, and I cannot say enough good things about this product. From the moment we set it up, it was clear this controller was designed with real accessibility in mind—not as an afterthought, but as the main event. The modular, one-handed design allows us to customize the layout to match my dad’s mobility and comfort, which has made an enormous difference in how long and how confidently he can play. The advanced remapping and macro buttons are a game-changer, letting us simplify complex inputs into manageable actions that work with his tremors rather than against them. The ergonomic 3D-printed shell feels solid, thoughtfully shaped, and surprisingly comfortable even during longer sessions. The RGB lighting is a fun bonus (he loves it—instant cool points), but more importantly, it also helps with visual orientation. Setup on PC and Xbox Series X was smooth, and once dialed in, it just works. What this controller truly gave us, though, goes beyond specs: it gave my dad back a sense of independence and joy. Gaming has always been something he loved, and Parkinson’s had slowly taken that away. This controller handed it back to him—literally. Watching him play again, smile, and feel capable is priceless. If you’re buying for someone with mobility challenges, neurological conditions, or limited hand use, this controller is absolutely worth it. Thoughtfully designed, beautifully executed, and genuinely life-enhancing. Five stars, without hesitation. Read more

The worst controller / keyboard / mouse

John MohrJanuary 18, 2026✓ Verified purchase

TLDR 1. The build quality and overall design make the shell extremely prone to breakage 2. The buttons require a high amount of force 3. The remapping software is terrible (only two keyboard/controller profile, 1 base+ 1 by holding fn) For the last year I've been looking for a new keyboard+mouse setup due to hand+wrist+arm pain. For mice I've tried regular, vertical, trackpad, trackball, drawing tablet, gyro to mouse, and analog stick to mouse. For keyboards - laptop, chiclet, mechanical blue+red+brown+white, membrane, split, and xbox/ps4/joycon . This is by far the worst keyboard and/or mouse I've ever used. First huge issue, the plastic shell arrived broken with 2 buttons having snapped off. Funnily enough the buttons still technically work. There are little tabs that come in contact with the inside of the shell to keep them from moving when the controller is inside. However, the breakage on the left side means every press of the NSEW buttons causes the controller to seperate. Eventually the buttons will start to fall out of place and become unusable. Even if I had a fully intact shell, I have little faith it would last as taking out and putting in the modules is extremely finnicky as there is no good place to hold the analog stick module during removal/insertion. Second and third huge issues - the buttons and stick. I can only really compare them to side mouse buttons or mice scroll wheels that are hard to press. All 8 buttons are as hard to press as the worst of those mice buttons I've used. The analog stick is similar with the added issue of having a large deadzone and weird diagonals which as far as I can tell are not customizable in their software. By weird diagonals, I mean the mouse output is much more vertical than horizontal at a 45 degree angle. While you can set L3 to fn to change profiles, the analog stick can only be mouse movements or WASD. If ByoWave is reading this, please allow the analog stick to be remapped either as a 4 way gate or an 8 way. Also please have at least 5 profiles on HID if there is enough onboard memory. Also, the only mouse inputs allowed are left+right click. No middle mouse button, scroll wheel or panning. After trying this out I have no clue who this was made for. The buttons and layout seem way to hard to use for kids, adults with smaller hands or gamers with less functional hands. The software is too limiting for someone wanting to use this as a keyboard and/or mouse. Read more

This product has a high-quality, premium feel that I can fully recommend. The components fit together effortlessly, showcasing a smart design that is especially beneficial for individuals with limited finger dexterity. By prioritizing accessibility, this design transforms limitations into opportunities, allowing gamers of all skill levels to dive in and enjoy the fun of gaming. Additionally, the ability to customize with 3-D printed accessories makes the product incredibly versatile. It opens the door for community input, allowing collaboration and fresh ideas. I’m excited to see the community tap into Proteus’ potential for growth and creativity, leading to unlimited possibilities. Read more

Amazing idea, accessory needs better execution.

ZomboxFebruary 27, 2026✓ Verified purchase

First of all, the underlying core of this product is amazing tech that deserves to be supported. The only issue comes with this specific sku. I do love an Xbox and Steam Deck compatible controller that behaves like an updated miniature version the old legendary Logitech G13. I love that you don't need to download any software to configure this either, just plug it directly into a computer via USB and the website does all the configuration and firmware updates you need. This issue comes from the 3d printed shell. Like other reviews have said, not even days into use, the buttons on the 3d printed shell have already broken from normal use. I suspect they didn't tolerance test their products too much before going into full manufacturing because the factures happen consistently in the same spots for everyone. It doesn't hurt the underlying controller and they do sell replacements on their website. I can also probably fix this with super glue, but for the price, it would probably have been better for the end user if this was injection molded like the rest of the hardware. Or better yet. Include some of those wedge shaped cubes that are included with the full Proteus controller and make the shell just a wrist rest attachment and it would work exactly the same. I wish it didn't have the broken shell problem I would absolutely give it 5 stars. Read more
