I'd already reduced my bath linens to my faves: three luxuriously thick terry bath sheets. But these offerings by Cacala looked so intriguing, I decided to buy one as a trial run for a trip to the Texas Gulf coast where humidity is high and nothing EVER dries out. I'm also a seamstress, so for good or ill, I can't help but judge fabric. I think these towels are amazing! The weave is tight--no snagging--while the cloth is thin and supple. Packs down to absolutely nothing yet is miraculously effective for drying off. They're as big as my terry bath sheets but much more versatile: great as a sexy wrap at the pool, a wonderful beach / picnic blanket or even as a light bed topper. Minimal sewing skills turns two into a fun shower curtain or cheerful window coverings. Colorfast with no shrinkage that I can perceive and dries completely in no time. If the tassels become a problem, just cut them off and hem the edge. The colors are playful and the stripes on various towels are related so mixing makes for a casual look. I believe I'll replace the utilitarian but dreary REI backpacking towel I use on the trail and for off-roading excursions. These new towels make me happy! Totally absorbent, as all others have said.. this size is big enough to use for the bath. I bought these for my camper and wasn't sure how it would go, but wanted something that wouldn't take too much space. I was hoping these would be super absorbent and dry rapidly, instead of getting that mildewed smell after a few uses. I was not disappointed at all and my husband was surprised when he took one to the bathhouse. He reported the towel completely dried him off, including his hair, and still had parts of it dry. When he returned, I hung it out and it was fully dry within a short time. I had a side table we put our small television on and all the cords were hanging below it, leaving a real tangled mess, so I used one of these as a cover over the table to the floor and it looked great as a table cloth. I also plan on using one or two out on the chairs as shoulder wraps when it gets chilly in the evening when we sit around the fire. The colors are muted and beautiful, not tacky or strange. I LOVE these peshtemal towels from Cacala -- this is my sixth one. They are beautiful, soft and amazingly absorbent. They're great as a quick-drying substitutes for regular bath towels, to wrap in and lie on at the pool or beach, as a throw for the couch, or as a unique shawl on a cool summer evening. They wash and dry well. I just put mine in the dryer for a couple minutes and let them hand dry. I've started giving them as gifts when I visit people. The smaller ones work great for the gym as they take very little room in your bag and as dish or hand towels. This black one with lilac stripes is my favorite -- the colors are rich and stunning together. I bought it as a gift for my husband who was a bit skeptical about it as a towel but after using it he's is a convert now too. Read more
I was gifted to this sort of towel as a "fouta". I loved it and searched Amazon for more. These from Calaca are wonderful. They are a joy to use, so soft and dry well without leaving you feeling 'over-dried'. The size is perfect for being a towel but also a post-swim wrap, a picnic blanket, a casual tablecloth, a dish towel, or even a light shawl. The colors are lovely, they are cotton(!) and the care is so easy. Throw them in the cold wash and hang to dry. They dry very quickly! The company was prompt and helpful, and each one comes tied with a tiny nazar/charm! I will probably buy more of these as they are so versatile and useful. Read more
They are thin, light and absolutely huge. A dizzying array of colors, and yes they dry very quickly. If they were twice as thick, it wouldnt impact size that much, or the aforementioned dryability (is that a word?) and would make them much more absorbant. As it is, they are wringing wet when i hang it to dry. As with all my reviews, i use my own hard earned money. Read more
This is my first experience with a Turkish towel and it took some getting used to, but after reading the reviews, I knew what I was getting into. I originally purchased it for use as a beach towel... but I liked it so much (and also summer ended) that I started using it as my bath towel. It's thin, yes, but it gets the job done and dries in about an hour. Now terry cloth towels feel overly bulky to me. The towel gets nice and soft after a few washes - also love how it doesn't bulk up the laundry bag/washer/dryer. And of course, it packs up small for trips to the beach and doesn't get sandy. They are very thin and light weight. They didn't absorb water that great and the tassels unraveled. I would not buy again. Also, the price was high compared to the quality. It's overpriced for such thin cheap towels. Read more
The color is beautiful, and the towel is soft and very absorbent, despite being lightweight. I have bought Turkish towels for 3X the price and found the quality to be quite similar. These towels dry quickly and hold up well in washing, although harsh detergents are not recommended. They are large enough to wrap around almost like a sarong. There are no negatives to this towel that I have found. Highly recommended for taking to the beach, the gym, to pack for a trip (they take up little room), or for home. These come in lots of wonderful colors and are especially nice for use in hot, humid climates where the quick drying factor helps to keep the towel fresh longer. They come beautifully packaged, too, so they make great gifts. Read more
