Nice, Solid Dumbbell Handles for the Price

I have 3 sets of these dumbbell handles and am happy with them. They weigh about 3lb. each and are solid. I've used them with a variety of plates, including fractional plates, and all fit perfectly. I've found some of the spin lock handles to not fit my fractional plates, so I'm happy that these fit all the plates I've tried. I use Ironmind Bulldog II collars (with 2 set screws) for the heavier loads, as those collars really bite into the dumbbell, but I've also purchased some 1 1/16" collars with a set screw here on Amazon and they work great too. The latter are about $20-$25 for a set of 4 collars and are a great option compared to the small spring clip collars that tend to slip. I am definitely happy with these dumbbell handles and I've also found that thick grip handles (many available here on Amazon) fit these too, enabling me to make a 2" or even 3" diameter handle. Overall, I would recommend these dumbbell handles to anyone looking for some solid handles at a good price point. Read more

Buy two. Thank yourself later.

Best quality I've used and cheaper than the competition. They get the job done for what i want. These are a great way to use weights if you have little space to store your equipment. It can be a hassle to take the weights off between sets and exercises. Although it's a pain, you can buy two and it makes the workout more effective and less time changing the plates. Only two downsides: - Pay attention to the weight security. Sometimes they need to be tightened in between sets. -The black paint coating chips off of the threads after a while of use. It's just cosmetic though. Read more

Perfect replacement to cheap handles

Perfect replacement to those cheap dumbell handles that use those annoying spring clamps. Definitely makes it easier and quicker to add or remove weights on the fly, love the knurled grip texture for added grip Read more

Knurling is on the smooth side. Length is a little short

Overall, these are quality bars and i would recommend them with the following caveats: 1. The loadable sections are kind of short. I upgraded to these from the cheap type that come with the threaded collars and a set of plates (5, 2.5, and 1.25 lb plates). I can only get about 35 lbs on each dumbbell (3x 5lb and a 2.5lb plate). If I try to get 4x 5 lb plates on each side the collars don't fully sit on the bar. If these were 16" instead of 14" i would probably be good for the amount of weight i could lift given i am a bit older and likely not going to attain monster status again :-) I might need to buy some 10lb plates with 1" centers but that kind of defeats the purpose of buying these bars instead of buying 2" ones and using the Olympic-size plates I have for barbell and other exercises. I may yet go with the 2" dumbbell bars given the next challenge... 2. I haven't found good collars that work with these yet. That is NOT CAP's fault; I measured the loadable part of the bar and it is 1.00" so dead on. Just crappy 3rd-party collars. But if you can't find those to go with these bars it makes these less usable. Still working on this... 3. The knurling is kinda smooth. I know some people like that better than the kind that is a bit sharper, but i like the security of the more aggressive knurling. I would call this a pro OR a con, depending on your preference. On another note, I saw some people complain about these being hollow. Mine are solid and very sturdy - quite happy with that! Guessing they got cheap copies and not real CAP ones. All-in-all I would recommend if not for the collar challenge Read more

Pair of dumbbell handles that flake off paint which leaves a mess and can cause splinters

Before rating this I had to ask myself “does this do what you bought it for?” and I have to answer yes with a huge “but” attached. These hold 1” plate weights and are good for all dumb bell exercises. Exchanging the weights does take some time as you must unscrew the collar, remove the weight, and replace it with another weight which takes more than the minute that I allot for rest in-between sets. And it what happens during that change that I want to bring up as a negative. The model that I have is painted black. That paint flakes off like the fur on my German Shepard but unlike Rover’s fur, this stuff is sharp. I have received more than a half dozen splinters from the paint coming off in my hands while changing weights. Once the paint comes off they are a nice shade of silver/chrome/whatever and they continue to work. For the price I paid for them, they work well. They weigh a mere 3+ pounds each and it it easy to swap plates, just a little time consuming. But please- if you get this set, maybe start in a paint removal process the moment you begin to see paint flaking off of them. You can see the paint missing from the end of the dumbbell in the attached photo and the semicircles of paint lying in the ground. Read more

screw clamps rule

I love the star screws, very positive in holding the weight much better than spring clamps, i.e. a lot more positive locking for pullovers. Read more
