I personally wouldn't call this "sand", rather I'd call it small gravel. Still... Love it for my shrimp tank!! Excellent feel (nice rounded edges - not sharp at all!) and color - not pure black but has mottled dark gray stones in with it which makes it look very pleasingly natural. Also, it's completely inert - which was very important for me. 100% will purchase again! Read more
Always a solid product. This rock is rough though and should not be the surface substrate for most bottom dwelling fish like corys or anything that digs. Still makes a great fill layer for a sand capped soil. The surface area excels at promoting good bacteria. Read more
They look nice but the only issue is they had so much dust on them. I rinsed them repeatedly for about 30 minutes and the tank was still cloudy by the time I put them in. Read more
Great product. Came out of the bag nice and clean. Water was a little cloudy for about 10 hours but no bad for zero rinsing Read more

Looks good in my beta aquarium, and this is the best substrate I have found that works great for planted aquariums Read more
After trying most of the substrates on the market, this stuff is my favorite. The small round pebbles are soft and easy for my assassin snails to dig in, it only took around 3 rinses to get these basically clear (as clear as acceptable for natural substrate). This laid down perfectly and was easy to anchor my rooted plants into, so I am thrilled with that, as historically I’ve had trouble with finer substrates, so this was a nice medium between sand and small rocks. The color looks like a natural river, and really sits flawlessly with the rest of my decor. I will probably stick to this for all my tanks going forward, it’s my favorite color and my shrimp and snails glide comfortably over it. Read more
Very pretty. I used a dark black substrate, pulled the edges out, and then put this in on top. What I like is that a little goes a long way. It’s not like fine sand it’s more like really really tiny pebbles and makes the bottom look very natural. I chose black because I’m trying to make my tank more realistic and calming. I’ve got a 30 gal tank and this was pretty good coverage. I don’t need more. Read more
