I tried this charcoal soap as an alternative to a transparent gold bar cleanser from a well-known brand. As with the "N" brand, I mostly used this in the shower, but for my face only. It gives me the same feeling of clean, oil-free skin that I like. It's interesting that other users seem to disagree on the scent. Oddly, I find that it sometimes smells good to me, with more of the peppermint coming through. But occasionally it comes off as having a solvent-like smell, a little like turpentine, which which makes sense because tea tree oil is high in turpenes. I don't notice any lingering odor after I shower. Having never used a charcoal soap before, I thought that it might have a rough texture like Lava soap, but it is perfectly smooth. The only thing that is a little weird is the dingy gray lather. When you rinse it looks like you are washing off a ton of dirt because of the dark runoff. Read more

I ordered this Charcoal Soap – Natural Activated Charcoal Black Soap Bar – Exfoliating Face & Body Wash for Dry, Sensitive, Oily Skin – Facial Cleanser with Bentonite Clay as I have enjoyed a couple bars of charcoal based soaps in the past. The soap seems to be of good quality, lathers well, and cleans well. The smell is just a bit too strong for me though. It smells nicely in the shower, but the couple times that I used it, I caught little scents of a menthol like scent from time to time during the day, likely from a eucalyptus or tea tree type ingredient. It was by no means unpleasant, but I seemed to be sensitive to it. This is a nice soap, but I would caution those who are sensitive to smells/odors to think twice about this one. Read more

I couldn't get past the atrocious smell. I opened the box, took a little smell, as one does, and nearly hurled. Needless to say, into the trash it went. I don't know what made it smell that bad, but don't waste your time or money. Read more
