I frequently prepare lasagna and appreciate its ability to evenly slice large blocks of cream cheese for the layers. This cutter is quite substantial, approximately one and a half times the size of a standard Velveeta block. So, my rating is based on how I am using this cheese slicer in my pasta making, so your mileage may vary if you're using it to cut really hard cheeses which are obviously different than soft pasta. For my purposes though, this tool is great for cutting pasta off the extruder die. It fits nicely between the handles on my pasta machine and cuts cleanly. It's light and easy to handle and clean. The wire seems to be secured well between the "arms" of the cutter, but as I stated, cutting soft pasta is going to be pretty different than cutting hard cheese so I can't speak to how well this will hold up, or how well the wire will stay put, when cutting hard cheese.
