WORTH THE PRICE

Stefano carusoneJanuary 25, 2026✓ Verified purchase

Great quality solid lighter all around. Just be aware that this lighter has a cotton wadding system around the wick. It works best with lighter fluid not kerosene lamp fluid which is meant for direct wick in fluid placement. I did some extensive research so don’t be confused with seller instructions. The more you use this lighter the more reliable it becomes. Same as a breaking it in. It’s a little on the expensive side but worth it. With proper maintenance it will last you a long time. Cheaply made.

UPDATE: Thorens made it right and sent me a new filler cap. Very happy with the lighter. The side filler cap was screwed in so tight that the metal ring snapped from trying to open it. Cheaply made. Do not buy. Read more

A solid brass collectible with luxurious weight and vintage flair.

Vlad S.October 2, 2025

Well, I’ve been sort of collecting lighters for a while now, and I’ve always had a soft spot for designs that lean toward the vintage rather than the modern disposable kind. That’s what drew me to this Thorens retro-style kerosene lighter in the diamond grid gold finish. The product photos showed a polished brass body with geometric engravings and a rich golden sheen, and it promised a more refined ignition mechanism than the usual wheel-and-flint. I decided to give it a try both as a collectible and as a functional lighter I could actually use. When it arrived, the packaging impressed me right away. The lighter comes in a bold red gift box with a velvet pouch, a spare wick, five extra flints, and a detailed manual, which makes it feel more like a luxury keepsake than a simple accessory. In hand, the first thing I noticed was the weight. At nearly 82 grams, it’s hefty, and that heft immediately signals quality. The finish is polished and reflective, and the diamond grid engraving catches the light in a way that makes it look far more expensive than it is. Opening the lid produces a sharp metallic sound, distinct and satisfying, that adds to the ritual of using it. The ignition design takes a little getting used to. Instead of the classic flip-and-strike motion, this uses a side mechanism that opens and ignites in one smooth action. Once you figure it out, it works reliably and with less effort than a flint wheel. The flame itself is a soft glow, steady and controlled, perfect for lighting a candle, pipe, or cigarette indoors. It feels more intimate than the harsher jet flames of modern lighters, and there’s something about the combination of brass, weight, and sound that makes even a simple task feel intentional. The included flints and wick are a nice touch, and after filling it with fuel, it lit immediately on the first try. Over the past week of use, I also noticed the fuel seems to last a little longer than my Zippos, likely due to the tighter cap seal. Of course, it isn’t without drawbacks. The same weight that makes it feel luxurious also makes it less convenient to carry in a pocket - it feels more like something you’d place on a desk or keep in a case. The flame, while elegant, is vulnerable outdoors and even a light breeze will put it out, so this isn’t the lighter you’d want for camping or windy conditions. And although the machining is sharp overall, I did notice a couple of edges on the engraving that weren’t quite perfect, small reminders that this isn’t made in Switzerland despite the branding heritage. All that said, this lighter does exactly what I hoped - it bridges functionality with artistry. It lights consistently, feels like a premium collectible, and has the kind of old-world charm that makes it enjoyable to use even when you don’t strictly need a flame. If you’re looking for a purely practical lighter, you may find it heavy and a little fussy outdoors. But if, like me, you appreciate the ritual and want a piece that feels like it belongs in a collection, this Thorens kerosene lighter delivers beautifully. Bottom line: A heavy, brass Thorens diamond-grid kerosene lighter that feels more like a collectible luxury piece than a pocket tool. It arrives in impressive gift packaging, feels more luxurious than a Zippo, has a refined ignition system, satisfying sound, and an elegant soft flame perfect indoors. Fuel lasts slightly longer than a Zippo, and the brass patina adds character over time. But it’s heavy to carry, is weak against wind, and has some minor machining imperfections. Best suited for collectors or those who enjoy the ritual, less so for purely practical everyday use. Still it’s a solid 5-star product in my book that I enjoy very much, highly recommended! Pros: 1. Brass body feels solid and premium. 2. Diamond grid finish looks very elegant. 3. Gift packaging feels luxurious and complete. 4. Ignition system is smooth and reliable. 5. Flame is steady, soft, and controlled. 6. Lid mechanism feels precise and durable. 7. Produces sharp satisfying metallic sound. 8. Fuel lasts longer than typical Zippos. 9. Easy to refill and maintain regularly. 10. Includes spare wick and extra flints. Cons: 1. Weight makes it bulky for pockets. 2. Flame blows out easily in wind. 3. Engraving edges slightly rough in spots. 4. Less practical than modern outdoor lighters. Read more

Pristine presentation and quality.

Chill ChampOctober 13, 2025

This is a Thoren's brand antique style kerosene lighter that is a single claw, diamond pattern. This antique style lighter comes in a very nice casing that has a 3D effect to it in a diamond pattern. This pattern reminds me of one of my favorite places, Epcot, the Epcot Ball. This lighter feels very elegant and luxurious. This lighter has a good weight to it and feels like it's made of a good quality. These are also numbered sequential. This lighter is part of their 2024 series and is #00000412. Making this feel very authentic and collectible. This has a single claw design meaning it has one grabber that spins the flint wheel. This lighter has an automatic start when you unscrew the button and press it to open the lid. This uses a flint Wick in kerosene style lighting system. The fill hole is located on the bottom side and the plug has an extra flint stored inside of it. This lighter is full of features and came very presentable in a branded, textured, felted gift box. The lighter itself was housed in a soft canvas style bag with drawstrings and included an extra wick that is very long and some flints. This also had an instruction booklet that was very thorough and had an antique feel to the writing and found that to be a really nice touch to this lighter. This lighter feels exquisite and something you would use on a special occasion or gift to somebody special in your life. This is a very well made and well put together. The finish on this is pristine. This lighter is very attractive to the eye, very collectible, and very functional. This feels like something special. The size of this is just slightly thinner than your typical old skull zippo style lighter and has a much better weight to it. The value on this seems a bit expensive for a lighter, till you realize how well this is made and how giftable this is. then you realize this has an expected value in my opinion and at the time of this review. Overall, this lighter is something you would gift someone you love dearly that you want to have nice things. This lighter is a example of amazing craftsmanship and pristine presentation. I would absolutely have no problem recommending this lighter. Read more

Beautiful retro lighter

WJR526December 20, 2025

The Thorens Luxury Classic Retro Soft‑Flame Lighter (Gen 3 Single Claw, Modern Grid Silver) is an impressive blend of craftsmanship and functionality. The brass construction gives it a solid, premium feel, and the retro design has a timeless charm that stands out from typical modern lighters. The soft flame lights reliably, and the automatic ignition works smoothly every time. I appreciate the safety lock, which adds peace of mind when carrying it in a pocket or bag. It’s fully refillable, and the kerosene reservoir is easy to access without fuss. The engraving details are clean and precise, giving it a collectible, heirloom‑quality look. It’s the kind of piece that feels just as suitable for daily use as it does for display. Overall, this lighter makes a fantastic men’s gift, especially for anyone who appreciates vintage‑inspired gear with modern reliability. Read more
