Nice easy and quick to inflate mattress/pad by Coleman

This is a nice “self” inflating camping pad/mattress by Coleman. To inflate you don’t need any sort of separate pump. You use the included pump sack (the mattresses stuff sack) which means less gear to worry about. To pump this up, first, lay the mattress out flat and open its inner valve. Attach the stuff sack’s nozzle to the mattress valve. With the pump sack placed upward and the top held open, blow a big puff of air into the sack. Then quickly start to roll the top edge of the air sack more and more to push and disperse the air into the mattress. Keep rolling until all the air is pushed inside. Alternately, you can gather the top of the bag tightly to trap the air you blew in and push the bag down to force the air into the mattress. It takes me between 7-8 cycles to fill the mattress but that will vary for each person. Deflating is quick and easy. Just open the full valve up and the air will release. This mattress pad seems to be well made with nice thick valves, durable outer seams, a moisture proof bottom and a soft knit fabric on the top. I weighed it using my kitchen scale and it came out to 2lbs 11.7oz so not bad for shorter backpacking trips but not ideal for really long trips. We dispersed camp often so I’m excited to have this. This has a 3+ R-value rating which should suffice for temps down to about 50°F or 10°C for most people. It also helps to have something underneath the mattress like a reflective emergency blanket (or any kind of blanket would help) or what we typically use are interlocking foam floor squares (like many use inside playrooms) if you’re still finding the cold coming through the floor of the tent too much. Keep in mind that air mattresses can feel cold because the air inside matches the ground temperature. The R-value ensures you are better insulated from that temperature, not that the mattress is actively heated at all. We camped one time where temps got down to 49°F and I was using an inexpensive air mattress without any R-value and I felt a lot of cold coming up through the mattress and was quite uncomfortable. I wanted to give this one a try last night but the high overnight was 38° so I opted to wait to see if we’ll get a night with at least a low of 47°-50°F and that’s looking to be a week out so for now, I can’t confirm if this mattress makes a difference but I absolutely will come back to update. Coleman makes good camp gear that has served us well over the years so I have a lot of confidence this will do as it’s rated to do, but I pinky promise I’ll update my actual use experience with this as soon as I’m able to weather wise. We live in the mountains so it’s been quite chilly the past few weeks with ice and snow. I do have a tent already set up that I’m also testing so just waiting for Mother Nature to grant us a little early false spring evening. ☺️ My son (14) did sleep on it inside the house and we didn’t notice it loosing any air come morning and he said it was pretty comfortable. I laid on it for a bit and it’s comfortable for me even while laying on my side. For now giving this 5/5 stars. It’s quick and easy to inflate/deflate, has a robust valve system, an R-rating that makes it nice to have for late Fall to early Winter camping, has a soft fabric top and what looks like durable seams. I feel the price ($99.99 at the time of this review) is fair for its attributes and the quality of it. Read more

Compact Comfort for Car Camping and Overlanding

Compactness This pad packs down small and fits easily with the rest of my gear. It’s a great space saver for SUV camping and overlanding setups where every inch matters. Pump Setup It does not include a built in pump, but the included pump attachment gets the job done. Inflation is still quick and straightforward once you get the hang of the valve. Lightweight At just 2.6 lbs, it’s easy to carry and doesn’t weigh down my loadout. Solid choice for trips where lighter gear makes life easier. Quality The brushed knit surface feels soft and durable, and it stays quiet when shifting at night. It feels well made and dependable, which I expect from Coleman. Ease of Use Setup is simple and the valve design makes inflation and deflation smooth. Packing it back up is just as painless. Fit Works great in the back of my SUV and suits overlanding use perfectly. Comfortable, supportive, and sized right for vehicle camping. Read more

Pretty comfy and soft

This is a decent sleeping pad, with a nice soft surface. So many of these plads are just plain material that is cold, slippery and not soft. This Coleman pad is improved in that the side you sleep on is brushed soft material- almost like a flocked felt or something. That is a nice improvement over other sleeping pads for camping because you always slide off and its not soft feeling. The mattress isn't that thick, but it was well made and balanaced to sleep on- ho uneven spots in the air chambers. The size is sufficient for a full size adult (6ft tall myself) and had enough room and wasn't hanging my feet off. The pad is stored in its own bag, and does roll up pretty well - fold in thirds lengthwise then roll up. This isn't recommended for long backpacking trips- as the weight probably isn't worth it, there are other lighter options readily available. The inflating part was difficult for me- the storage bag has a small nipple that inserts into the sleeping pad. You upen the stuff sack pinch the end then squeeze the air into the sleeping pad. Repeat for 5-10 minutes and your pad is filled up. Deflating was a breeze, just pop open the valve/plug and it all rushes out. The instructions are poorly described- more legal language in the sheet of paper than actual helpful instructions to the consumer. The stuff sack has a sleeve in it, that you can pull out and it doubles the volume of the stuff sack for squeezing the air in (see pic). That was a big discovery and helped on the inflation. I'm taking off 1 star for the difficulty in the inflation steps. Read more

Thick and comfy, not ultralight

This sleeping pad is really nice and has a good feel to it. One side has a soft brushed texture that feels great, and using the included inflation sack makes setup a lot easier. I like that you do not have to blow into it, so you are not huffing and puffing or filling it with your own germs. The pad gets nice and firm and has a solid thickness to it. It also does not wobble much once you are on it, which I prefer compared to the pads that feel bouncy. It is light enough to bring on a hike in or out, but definitely has a more durable feel than the ultralight options. It packs down reasonably well, though you can tell it is built with a bit more material. For car camping it is perfect, and if you throw it on top of a cot it becomes a pretty comfortable setup for a weekend trip. Overall, a great pad that is easy to inflate, comfortable to sleep on, and sturdy enough to last. A nice mix of convenience and comfort for anyone who camps even a few times a year. Read more
