CQR Tactical Belt Review: A Surprising Contender Against 5.11

Martin JacksonMarch 17, 2024✓ Verified purchase

When it comes to tactical belts, the market is flooded with options, but finding one that balances quality, durability, and price can be a challenge. Enter the CQR Tactical Belt, a product that not only meets these criteria but, in some aspects, surpasses its well-known counterpart from 5.11. After putting this belt through its paces, I've been impressed with its performance and feel compelled to share my experience. Build Quality and Design The CQR Tactical Belt is constructed with high-strength nylon webbing, a feature that immediately signals its durability and suitability for both everyday carry (EDC) and tactical uses. This belt is designed to withstand the rigors of daily use without fraying or losing its shape, a testament to its robust construction. What sets it apart is its quick-release buckle, made from a heavy-duty plastic that feels anything but flimsy. The buckle's flip tab design ensures a secure fit that doesn't accidentally release under pressure, yet it's easy enough to operate even when wearing gloves. This is where the CQR slightly edges out the 5.11 version, offering a buckle mechanism that is both intuitive and reliable. Comfort and Functionality Despite its rugged build, the CQR Tactical Belt offers a surprising level of comfort. The belt's webbing is flexible enough to move with you but strong enough to support a holster and other gear without sagging. Its adjustability is straightforward, allowing for a precise fit that stays put throughout the day. This aspect is crucial for a belt designed to support tools and weapons; it remains comfortable and functional without constant readjustment. Versatility One of the CQR Tactical Belt's strongest suits is its versatility. Whether you're using it for outdoor activities, as part of a duty uniform, or simply as an everyday belt, it performs exceptionally well. The understated design and color options make it suitable for a range of scenarios, from casual to more formal tactical environments. Comparison to 5.11 While the 5.11 tactical belt is often considered the gold standard in this category, the CQR Tactical Belt holds its own and, in some respects, surpasses its competitor. The key difference lies in the buckle design and the belt's overall value. When you consider the price point, which is typically lower than the 5.11 without sacrificing quality, the CQR belt represents an excellent investment for those in need of a reliable tactical belt. Conclusion In conclusion, the CQR Tactical Belt is an outstanding product that exceeds expectations, especially when compared to its more famous counterparts like the 5.11. Its durability, ease of use, comfort, and value make it a top choice for anyone in need of a high-quality tactical belt. Whether for professional use, outdoor activities, or everyday wear, this belt delivers on all fronts, making it a highly recommended option for anyone in the market for a new tactical belt. Very durable, no complaints, I love it's simplicity.

I read all the negatives about this product and was skeptical about the reviews. There's nothing not to like, it's simple and durable. I got it because of the plastic buckle so it wouldn't scratch metal, wood or painted surfaces. The plastic buckle is very durable, it's only holding up your pants, if it's not durable enough for that then you have other issues and might want to consider a ratchet strap instead. The belt itself is a web type material and is wide enough to fit your belt loops, maybe some of the negative reviewers thought it was an equipment belt? It's not intended to be fashionable, but it's functional. Leather belts stretch, the holes start to tear then have to be replaced, that won't happen with this belt and you'll spend less than half the price of a durable leather belt. Do the math yourself, a good leather belt costs at least $20 and will need to be replaced in a couple years, this won't and costs MUCH less. You won't scratch your truck when cleaning your windows or checking the oil either. It's slightly long but that's nothing to complain about. In an emergency you could use it as a strap or a tourniquet. I'm ordering 2 more to use as a rifle sling. Read more

Good Belt for the price

CQR makes a good belt and it appears to be fairly well made but I do have some criticisms. I also own several web belts from Spec Ops which have all given me excellent service for many year, so I’ll be comparing the CQR belt to the ones I have from Spec Ops. The reason I went with CQR, this time around, is that I needed a navy blue belt and Spec Ops simply doesn’t offer one in that color, so the choice was actually made for me. The Spec Ops belt is a made in USA product. The CQR belt is labeled China. Both belts are made from 1.5” nylon webbing but the webbing on the CQR belt appears to be slightly thinner than the webbing on the Spec Ops belt. That makes the CQR belt feel softer and more limp. It’s not necessarily a bad thing if you only need the belt to hold your pants up but if you want a belt to attach anything to, like a holster, then I believe a thicker material with more stiffness is better. The stitching on the CQR belt is adequate and neatly done but there’s more and better stitching on the Spec Ops belt and you can clearly see that the Spec Ops is better built. The plastic buckles on both belts look similar but the Spec Ops buckle securely holds the webbing when only one side is inserted through the buckle. That’s impressive and convenient when adjusting your clothing/uniform. The CQR buckle does not hold the webbing securely unless both sides of the buckle have the webbing threaded through the buckle and I found that to be an unnecessary inconvenience. Who wants to take extra time just to adjust their belt? Not me, but I have to with the CQR belt. I normally purchase belts sized for a 38 inch waist even though I’m a 36. I purchased the CQR belt in size X-LARGE and did the same for the Spec Ops belt. The Spec Ops belt was considerably longer out of the package and needed to be cut to size. The CQR was an exact fit and was wearable right out of the package. The CQR belt is less expensive than the Spec Ops belt but spending more gets you a USA manufactured product which performs better and I believe will last longer. The CQR belt is still a good product, particularly for the price and I expect to get good service from it for many years. I may indeed purchase another CQR belt but given the choice between CQR and Spec Ops I’ll pick the Spec Ops. Read more

Have replaced my 1 inch-military belts with these. These are very well-made and the plastic buckles are very sturdy. You won’t be disappointed. Read more

A little chintzy, doesn't stay fixed

Adam AstonDecember 14, 2025✓ Verified purchase

Can't really complain given the price, but buckle quality is a chintzy plastic. Perhaps because it's a little flexible, the buckle can't keep the belt in tension, so you have to re-tighten every few hours. I was traveling and forgot my belt. This was fine for a quick fix, but I would not recommend it for meaningful daily wear. Read more
