Great for large tools, or lots of small tools

Mr. SaintJanuary 27, 2017✓ Verified purchase

I purchased this tool bag after I bought Stanley STST70574 Tool Bag because the Stanley bag doesn't hold large hand tools (drill, jigsaw, reciprocating saw, etc) as well. The Stanley bag is still excellent, just better suited for small tools. The extra space isn't in the additional inch of length, the Craftsman bag is 3" wider, big difference. Most recently, I used both bags for a bunch of little jobs which turned in to needing all the tools pictured. I knew I needed to complete a couple reviews, so I didn't put tools away to show how much the two could hold, hence the photos. The drill and jigsaw went in the Craftsman bag along with some of the larger items. For reference, the hammer just barely fit in the Stanley bag. The bag is strong and built for heavier items. Most noticeable in the zipper, definitely stronger on the Craftsman as mentioned in other reviews. I can confirm this and the seams, built for bulk. Once the bag is loaded with tools, almost no one will zip the bag shut anyways. This one doesn't look as good as the Stanley, but that isn't real important. Pros: - Strong, well built - Heavy duty zipper, seams and handles - Plenty of interior space Cons: - Minimal pocket space, none inside Overall, both bags have their strong and weak points but are still both excellent. I use both or one at a time, depending on the job. Read more

Great for larger items or a largish number of tools

Reed R.November 19, 2014✓ Verified purchase

I had a couple of power tools that I've been either storing loose or in the cardboard box (a DeWalt impact wrench and a Black & Decker drill - both corded) that I decided needed another storage option. Given the relatively low price, I ordered both the Craftsman 13" Reinforced Tool Bag as well as the Stanley STST70574 12-Inch Soft Sided Tool Bag. I was amazed to find that while both are excellent, well constructed bags, they are actually suited for very different purposes. Both bags are made from a durable feeling 100% polyester. Both seem to be well constructed, with reinforcing material on the heavier duty seams. Both have a two piece fabric handle. Both are attractive, but fairly different styling. Both are made in China. The Craftsman bag has significantly more storage area inside, much more so than the 13 vs 12 inch size in the descriptions would lead you to believe. In addition to the extra inch of length, the base of the Craftsman bag is 8" wide compared to 5" for the Stanley bag, resulting in vastly more interior space. In keeping with the larger (and potentially heavier) payload of this bag, there is a bit more reinforced stitching on the handle of the Craftsman, as the handle fabric continues much further down the side of the bag. The other big win for the Craftsman is the heavier duty zipper. While still matching the price point of this bag (e.g. too much stress will destroy it), the zipper has bigger, heavier duty teeth that just feel like they'd hold up to a lot more abuse than the Stanley bag. In contrast, the Stanley bag looks a bit more refined. While both bags have 6 outside pockets, the Stanley has 3 pockets on each side of the bag, with the larger pocket on one side having a heavy duty Velcro flap to hold stuff in. In contrast, the Craftsman has three mesh pockets, with three non-mesh pockets right behind them. The pockets on the Stanley have a much greater capacity while the ones on the Craftsman seem quite limited. On the inside of the bag, the Stanley has 5 pockets of varying size on one side, and on the other side a single pocket the entire length of the bag with two Velcro attachment points to allow you to secure things inside. The Craftsman has no interior pockets. While I'm not convinced of the usefulness, the Stanley bag also has light reflective strips on the outside pouch flap, so it could save your life if walking down a dark rural road swinging your tool bag. For the purpose I originally had in mind (storing largish hand tools), the heavy duty, larger Craftsman bag fulfilled my needs exactly. However, if you're looking for a small tool bag to keep the basic screwdrivers, hammer, tape measure, and other small assorted tools in one of your kitchen cabinets, the Stanley is probably the better choice. When I pulled both out of the Amazon box, I found the Stanley to be the better bag... until I needed to fit the large tools in - at which point the Craftsman was the clear winner. But I will have no problem finding a use for the Stanley bag. Both are a good value for the money. Update - March 2018: Both bags have been working great, but last week on this Craftsman bag, the pull tab on the zipper (the metal dangly thing you grab to zip/unzip) broke off of the slider. Everything else about the zipper still works great. I threw away the broken pull tab and replaced it with a zip-tie which actually works a lot better. So no change to the stars from my point of view, but thought I'd pass it along. Read more

does as marketed. dimensions are roughly 12" by 8" by 10" when i measured

M. R.March 11, 2017✓ Verified purchase

this is a triangular bag, meaning it's a triangle when you look at it from the side. you could guess that from the picture but it may not be obvious. the material feels OK - doesnt feel sturdy but not flimsy either. i wouldnt feel confident mountain hiking with this - itd probably rip - but im pretty sure its not designed for that either... i used this to keep my electric drill, which fits very well into the bag. it has a wide base and my drill doesn't protrude out of the bag at all. the dimensions are as advertised. i put pictured confirming the dimensions, which i found to be slightly different (but pretty much the same) as advertised. Perfect bag for all your grab-and-go hand tools

Thomas L.February 5, 2017✓ Verified purchase

This soft-sided tool box is the perfect size to hold all your grab-and-go hand tools -- you know, the ones you always use for quick fixes around the house. It's large enough to hold a few types of multi-bit screwdrivers, a case of bits, several types of pliers, a wrench or two, diagonal cutters, wire stripper, magnetic pickup tool, flat scraper tool, a couple of drill bit extensions, a multimeter, a precision screwdriver and bits, and a collection of electronic pry tools. There are a few outside pouches that you can clip a tape measure to, or tuck a couple more tools into. No more hunting around for tools in the garage or basement before starting those simple fix-it jobs. Just grab the bag and get to work! With a metal tool box, I'm always worried the top will accidentally unlatch while I'm carrying it, and damage the flooring as all the the heavy tools smash into it. By contrast, this soft-sided bag has a top-center zipper with handles on either side of it, offering a more secure and balanced feel while carrying. And you won't gouge the drywall if the bag accidentally bumps into it. Other reviewers lug some of their power tools in this tool box, and that would work, too. You could easily fit a power drill and battery or two, plus a rotary tool and bits, or an oscillating tool and blades. It's a versatile carry-all for whatever go-to tools you happen to prefer.
