Best Gel Pads for Whiney Babies

As a skating parent, I consider these little gel pads nothing short of a miracle. Before we had them, every practice ended with sore ankles, blisters, and dramatic “I can’t skate another step!” performances. Now? Smooth glides, happy ankles, and fewer complaints (well, at least about skates). Likes: • They slide on easily and actually stay put during jumps and spins. • Cushioning is just right—enough protection without feeling bulky inside the skate. • Washable and reusable, so they’re not a one-and-done fix. What could be better: • They don’t magically keep skates tied tight after a double loop. (Still working on that one!) • My skater likes them so much, now I have to buy backup pairs because they keep disappearing into the abyss of the skate bag. Who this is best for: Figure skaters, hockey players, or anyone who’s tired of their ankles screaming after lacing up. Verdict: A must-have piece of gear—like seatbelts for your ankles. Read more

Excellent for hiking boots.

The media could not be loaded. There are 2 reasons I like the ankle gel sleeves. The obvious is the padding and protection to the protruding ankle bones. The second, and most important reason for me, is because a hiking boot should be snug around ankle and mine are not. I use the gel pad to bulk up the ankle. Thick socks or double socks work for some, but not for me-creates toe box problems. The gel pads completely cover the inside of the sleeve and keeps them from slipping. To put them on, turn the sleeves so the gel is on the outside & fabric next to the skin. Pull them on about 6" above the ankle. Then grasping the top of the sleeve (keeping the bottom of the sleeve stationary) roll the top down over the outside gel until the gel is on the inside and the sleeve covers the ankle. I have purchased two more pairs. I hike daily in the desert and the gel is very sweaty next to the skin and the desert dust is thick. I hand rinse the pads after each use but even in the desert climate they take a couple of days to dry. I don't know but assume the electric dryer is out. Therefore I have 3 pairs. Read more

Works as intended for preventing blisters

I bought this to go under a lace-up ankle brace that I had to wear for a hiking trip. The brace rubbed on my ankle, and this product definitely saved me from a bunch of blisters. I won’t rate it 5 stars though because it kinda started to fall apart after a week of heavy use and it traps sweat like crazy, giving me a weird rash on my ankle. Read more

Highly recommend for boot lovers, especially in new boot

These are made for ice skates, but I used them in boots that have rear zipper that tend to slouch over time and the zipper ends up cutting into flesh. They’re also great for booties that have tight ankles so they don’t rub off layers of skin and cause blisters. Read more

Comfortable, but lacks durability and has a bad lingering smell

The ankle gel sleeves offer some comfort, which has helped alleviate ankle pain during ice skating, and they also stay securely in place. However, the product has an unpleasant lingering odor and has begun to show signs of wear after about five uses. Additionally, the gel has become noticeably stickier, making it somewhat challenging to put on without it adhering to itself. Read more

Finally, some pain relief!

I am wearing a leg brace after fracturing my knee, but the darned brace keeps slipping. It is made of very hard plastic and has no padding, so when it slips it pushes against my ankle and all the bones in the top of my foot. Very painful. I was googling, looking for some way of padding the brace, other than sticking a sock under it, when I found these gel-filled ankle sleeves. I've never even had ice skates on my feet, so didn't know there was a need for these little miracles, but I am so grateful! I hope the brace can finally be adjusted so it doesn't slip, but in the meantime, my foot is no longer being tortured. I can only imagine these work well for their intended purpose, of protecting ankles from stiff skates or boots. I think the ortho people should hand them out with leg braces. The sleeves are very well made, arrived quickly, and are comfortable. Thank you, CRS! Read more
