This is such a versatile storage solution for crafters and hobbyists that I immediately began wishing I'd ordered a few more at the same time. As a storage box for floss, it works exactly as it should. The only drawback, as mentioned by others, is that I agree it does not come with enough bobbins. In my case, that's not much of an issue as I did end up buying more of these cases and since I wasn't using them for floss, those bobbins were there for my use with the first case. I have another of these set up with larger beads. It's not suitable for extremely small beads as any tilting of the case will end up allowing them to move between compartments, but it was ideal for the many 1/2cm beads I had stuck in a drawer in small baggies. Still another is holding brads and flourishes for my scrapbooking. I have another one that I actually did end up using the bobbins from... but it's holding "scrap" ribbon (short lengths of 1" to 12" or so), each scrap wrapped on its own bobbin and secured with a small piece of tape. I have two more that I'm using for buttons, divided by color and finish. I like to do button crafts, but digging through a box or bin of a few hundred buttons just to find the right color/finish is a hassle. They fit very nicely in these boxes. I have one more box that is being used for screws and nails. It seems like I end up with hundreds of odd screws or nails from various purchases, and I had a box full of little pieces of tape or small baggies that came attached to various products. I went through and divided them up by screw or nail, then divided the screws by Phillips, flat-blade, square, hex and thumb. You can probably tell that being able to find what I want quickly is important to me! Suffice it to say, these boxes are excellent for that purpose. I also find the price to be an excellent value... which is probably why I seem to keep buying more of these and finding additional uses for them all the time. I feel that the boxes are plenty sturdy for my needs. I have a few stacked on top of each other, and a few others standing on end like books. I've noticed no trouble with either arrangement. I have recently returned to embroidery which my mom taught me as a child, 60 years ago. I am delighted by all the new products they have on the market now for this hobby. This organizer is wonderful!! It is light, easy to organize colors in, convenient to store and affordable. I am so glad I bought it. One small issue: once filled, the lid does not snap closed. I am getting back into counted cross stitch after many years. I couldn't find what I used years ago, so I decided to try this organizer box. It is perfect for my needs. It holds all my floss for my project plus my little scissors and extra needles. It is very sturdy and the 50 bobbins are plenty for my needs. I would buy this again! Read more
I am only giving this item 4 stars because I wish there were more than 50 bobbins, but that is the item's only shortcoming. The container can hold more than the 50 we used, though I suppose it would depend on how much thread you put on each individual bobbin. The bobbins inside are flat, meant to store embroidery floss while you complete a project or between projects. The bobbins have tabs to tuck the floss in and hold it as you start to wind and then to hold the end when you are finished winding so the thread stays on the bobbin until you are ready to take it off- no unraveling. They fit well into the compartmentalized sections and the lid will close whether you have the tab side up or the thread side up. There is a larger section that will hold a small embroidery scissors and needles. The clear package makes it easy to see the contents even when closed. Does it take time to wind the floss? Yes. But trying to unravel one thread from a knotted mess of floss also takes time, and winding is a lot less frustrating. Once organized, you can enjoy your project knowing that whatever thread you'll need next will be easy to find and remove. It took me only an hour or so in front of a movie to fill all 50 bobbins. The lid closes nice and tight, so there is little chance of spilling. I crumpled the paper on the front of the lid before I realized it had an organizational chart on the back. I don't think I would have used it anyway, but now you know it's there so you won't make my mistake. I wrote the floss ID numbers in sharpie on the side of each bobbin where the tabs are and put them in the organizer in ascending order left to right. My daughter had thread hanging from every available surface in her room to try and keep a rather large cross-stitch project organized and the thread untangled, so I was thrilled to find this organizer. Love these bins for floss storage. The plastic bobbins are perfect and I love that they are reusable and so much more durable than the cardboard bobbins. I use a fine-point Sharpie to number my floss and when I am ready to re-use them, I just take a bit of nail polish remover and a q-tip to the number and it comes right off, no damage to the bobbin. Don't really have anything bad to say except I don't like how one side has a longer section then the other spots but it works great for embroidery threads keep them organized and easy to find. If you only have two embroidery packets in one of the things they do slide around and get mixed up but my hugest complaint is that the one side is bigger and doesn't have a middle barrier compared to at the address of the case Read more
