Removed stains from filling
I have one retainer made of the more expensive plastic, and one made of the cheap kind. Over the years, the cheap one had become stained from my silver fillings leeching a black color into them. Unfortunately, I don't have the before photo, but I took a picture of the after photos. After using these for at least a week or two, it completely removed every trace of the black stain. I had previously tried to remove with baking soda and scrubbing, but nothing else worked. So that was a nice surprise. I really only bought this as a hassle-free cleaner and wasn't expecting the stains to be removed. The cheaper retainer did remain cloudy however, while the more expensive one is more Crystal clear. I'm thinking it's because the cheaper one just has wear that can't be removed, but I'm not sure. The only downside to this is I often forget and leave them for many hours instead of the recommended 3 minutes in the cleaning solution. It leaves a kind of weird slimy film on the retainers. However it comes off pretty easily after running it through water and rubbing with my fingers. I do feel a little odd about whatever chemical residue is left on this, but I'm not too concerned. Overall though, they seem to do a great job and I'm sure they remove bacteria and build up that is hard to reach with brushing. Read more
